Illuman

Illuman Illuman helps men become healthier, more authentic human beings through deep, spiritual inner work. We are seeking a life changing spirituality.

Illuman is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2012 by Father Richard Rohr OFM, for men who are ready to do the inner, spiritual work to become healthier and more authentic human beings. We do this work through our Men’s Rites of Passage experiences, council groups (both in-person and virtual), national gatherings, and local chapter offerings. We are a non-denominational and interfaith organi

zation that welcomes all male-identified persons to our work without regard for your religion, race, ethnicity, class, education, sexual orientation or any other characteristic that might make you feel excluded. We are men transforming men through a power greater than ourselves. Our primary concern is inner work that makes a difference in the world. We are fed by the wisdom traditions of forgiveness and radical inclusivity. Our work recovers traditional patterns of male initiation, affirms a masculine path to healing, reveals the true and false self and honors the path of descent. We do this through the power of ritual, image, story and council. These are our five touchstones:
Centering – we are men grounded in the power of the here and now. Gathering – we are men who listen deeply to each other’s stories. Connecting – we are men who choose another to walk with - shoulder to shoulder. Releasing – we are men who let go of the ways that no longer serve us. Serving – we are men who honor the earth and serve the whole human community. We seek to form future generations of men who will restore these practices – building a world that celebrates the beauty of all beings.

What does resurrection feel like?

In Return to Ghost Ranch, Caleb “Of Many Names” Elliott finds the answer not in certainty, but in earth, wind, cliffs, tears, laughter, and the quiet realization that he belongs.

The poem reminds us that transformation is often found in returning to what is ancient, enduring, and true. Sometimes waking up again for the first time begins with remembering that we are already part of something larger than ourselves.

Where in your life are you being invited to belong more deeply?

What happens when generations of men gather together?

At Awaken 2026, fathers, sons, mentors, and young men have the opportunity to share space, stories, laughter, and the kind of conversations that rarely happen in everyday life.

Doug Shirley, Awaken Convener, is extending a special invitation to men who have already registered: consider inviting a young adult son, nephew, mentee, or young brother in your life to join you.

We need the wisdom of elders and the energy of younger men. We need spaces where men can learn from one another, support one another, and walk the journey together.

If you're already coming, who is one young man you could invite?

And if you haven't registered yet, there's still time to join us.

In Echoes, Michael Caston reflects on the voices that shape us over time and the healing that can emerge through tenderness, friendship, silence, and connection. Slowly, the old echoes begin to fade, making room for a deeper truth: I am enough.

What old echoes are you learning to release, and what deeper truth is beginning to take their place?

“Remember the rituals?” explores the quiet transformation that happens when we stop resisting wonder and allow ourselves to belong again. Andrew Stegemann’s poem reflects on the way ritual, nature, and shared experience slowly soften the ego and awaken something ancient within us — a longing for beauty, slowness, connection, and love.

From dragonfly wings to wild rivers, the poem reminds us that healing often begins beneath the surface, long before we have words for it.

What if the change you’re seeking doesn’t come from pushing harder—but from remembering who you are beneath it all? Step into a space where you can slow down, reconnect, and be shaped by something deeper.

“Broken. Beat down. Exhausted.” traces the journey from despair and surrender into awakening, healing, and renewed purpose. Written by Taylor Ashland at Sky Camp, Oregon, in 2025, the poem reflects the quiet courage of listening deeply enough to rise again.

What if the thing you’ve been searching for—a sense of belonging, connection, and being fully accepted—has been waiting for you all along? Come discover a space where men gather not because they have it all together, but because they’re longing for something real.

What if the loneliness you carry isn’t yours alone—but something many men quietly share? Step into a space where honesty reveals connection, and you discover your story isn’t as isolated as it feels.

There is a place within that knows.
A place shaped over time—through experience, through relationship, through the unfolding of life itself.

Daniel Gunderson’s poem points us toward that deeper awareness. When we slow down, even briefly, we may begin to notice it again—a quiet sense of connection, presence, and peace that has been there all along.
