FYI!

The Sanford Fire Department will conduct a live burn training exercise at 1503 Old Carbonton Road tomorrow (Tuesday, June 2, 2026), beginning at 8 a.m.

The structure is located next to the Endor Iron Furnace Greenway; however, use of the trail will not be impeded.

Live burn exercises are an important part of the department’s training program. “These exercises provide firefighters with an opportunity to safely and efficiently train to fight fires in a controlled and supervised environment," says Fire Chief Matt Arnold.

Though there will be heavy smoke in the area, there is no danger.

Heaviest smoke can be expected around Carbonton Road, Jefferson Davis Highway at the Carbonton Road overpass, and Old Carbonton Road.

We are happy to announce that our newest apparatus will be delivered in June. The final touches are being completed this week. This apparatus has been designed to allow our members to respond safely, quickly, and with all the needed equipment to not only fight fire but provide extensive rescue and patient care all from this one vehicle.

While recent announcements regarding county property tax increases may raise concerns, we want to clarify that the Deep River Fire Department fire tax rate will not increase for the upcoming budget year. We will have the second lowest tax rate in the County.

Deep River Fire Department Leadership is proud to announce that we have met the department’s funding needs for the upcoming budget year without increasing the fire tax rate paid by the citizens we serve.

Through careful planning, responsible budgeting, and continued community support, we have also maintained our insurance safety rating at a Class 3. This rating helps property owners throughout our district benefit from lower insurance rates while ensuring high-quality fire protection services remain available.

We are also excited to share that a new fire engine has been purchased and is expected to arrive soon. This new apparatus will strengthen our ability to protect the community and provide reliable service for years to come.

We appreciate the continued trust and support from the citizens of Deep River and remain committed to providing professional, efficient, and fiscally responsible fire protection services.

🔥🚫 Burn Ban = No Backyard Bonfires, Folks!

Deep River Fire Department here with a friendly reminder that the State of North Carolina has hit the big red “NOPE” button on burning. That means no brush piles, no campfires, and definitely no “I’ll just burn this real quick” moments.

We know… the leaves are looking at you, the sticks are piling up, and your inner pyromaniac is whispering sweet ideas but now’s not the time 😅

It’s dry, it’s windy, and fires can spread faster than small-town gossip. Help us keep our trucks parked and our firefighters at home by holding off on burning until the ban is lifted.

👉 When in doubt: don’t light it.

Stay safe, Deep River! 🚒
