🔥 MERIDIAN YOUTH WRESTLING SPOTLIGHT: GIO! 🔥

If there’s one thing you need to know about Gio, it’s this: he is a rolling machine who absolutely does NOT like getting pinned! 😂 The second Gio hits the mat, our little Tasmanian Devil comes out, and you better hold on because he is going to keep moving!

This is Gio’s second year of wrestling, and what a journey it has already been! After coming up just short in the blood round at Regionals last year, Gio bounced back, made it all the way to States, and brought home a 3rd-place finish! 🥉 That is quite a feat for our little Gio, and we couldn’t be prouder of him!

Off the mat, Gio is just as much fun as he is on it. He’s funny, loves hanging out and wrestling with his teammates, and especially enjoys getting after it with his cousins! There’s nothing quite like a little family wrestling match to keep things interesting! 😂

Gio, we can’t wait to see what you bring to the mat this year. Keep rolling, keep fighting, keep having fun, and most importantly… DON’T GET PINNED! 💙🤼‍♂️

We’re so proud of you, Gio! Let’s see what Year 3 has in store! 🔥💪

🌟 Meridian Youth Wrestling Spotlight: Wyatt Gray 🌟

From the moment Wyatt stepped onto the wrestling mat 2 years ago, it was love at first whistle. Wrestling isn't just something Wyatt does—it's who he is. He's the kind of kid who grinds 24/7, wrestles year-round, and only sprinkles in other sports for a little extra fun.

One thing about Wyatt is that when he sets his mind to something, he refuses to quit. Whether practice was easy or tough, a match ended in victory or defeat, he always came back ready to work. He's usually the first one through the wrestling room doors and somehow manages to be the last one to leave.

Over the years, Wyatt has learned that being a great wrestler isn't just about winning matches. It's about being a great teammate, a supportive friend, and someone others want in their corner. Those lessons have become just as important as any medal he's earned.

Like every wrestler, Wyatt has experienced the highs of big wins and the heartbreak of tough losses. Learning how to channel those emotions, stay focused, and listen has been one of his biggest areas of growth. And, much to Coach's delight...he's even discovering that listening to Coach sometimes—just sometimes—actually pays off!

All of Wyatt's dedication and countless hours on the mat led to an incredible accomplishment this season: earning 5th Place at the MYWAY State Tournament. That's no small feat, and it's a testament to the hard work, determination, and heart he brings every single day.

Wyatt, we are so proud of the wrestler—and more importantly, the young man—you are becoming. Keep grinding, keep believing, and keep being the teammate everyone looks up to. We can't wait to see what the future has in store for you.

Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang! 💙🤼

💙💛 Meridian Youth Wrestling Spotlight: Iva Owens 💛💙

If there's one thing we've learned this season, it's this... never judge a wrestler by their size!

Our sweet Iva Owens may be one of the smallest wrestlers in the room, but don't let that fool you—she is an absolute force of nature! Somewhere between a tornado, a firecracker, and a tiny superhero lives Iva, and anyone who lined up across from her quickly found that out. 🤼‍♀️💥

Coming into your very first year of wrestling is a big challenge. Stepping onto the mat can be scary for anyone, and being one of the girls in the wrestling room can make it feel even more intimidating. But Iva never once let that define her. She walked into every practice and every tournament with courage, determination, and just the right amount of sass.

And can we talk about that handshake? Before the whistle even blew, Iva would grab her opponent's hand with so much confidence that we're pretty sure a few of them started rethinking their game plan. It was like she was saying, "Good luck...you're going to need it!" 😄

Once the match started, she was all business. Iva wrestled with her whole heart, never stopped moving, and collected pin after pin throughout the season. Every practice, every drill, every tough match helped shape her into the wrestler she is today.

Her hard work paid off in an incredible way as she battled her way to 7th Place at the MYWAY Girls State Championships! And to top off an amazing rookie season, Iva was named Meridian Youth Wrestling's Rookie of the Year! Those awards weren't given because she's talented—they were earned because she showed up, worked hard, stayed coachable, and never stopped believing in herself.

Iva, thank you for reminding us that the biggest hearts often come in the smallest packages. Your fearless attitude, infectious smile, and determination have inspired your coaches, teammates, and everyone lucky enough to watch you wrestle. We couldn't be prouder of everything you've accomplished in your very first season.

This is only the beginning of your wrestling journey, and if this year taught us anything, it's that the future better watch out...because there's one tiny Mustang coming through, and she's only getting started. 💙💛

We are so proud of you, Iva. Keep shaking hands, taking names, and pinning anyone brave enough to stand across from you. The best is yet to come! 🤼‍♀️💪

🌟 Meridian Youth Wrestling Spotlight: Carter Hude 🌟

Some wrestlers earn victories on the mat. Others earn something even greater—the respect and admiration of everyone around them. Carter Hude has accomplished both.

From the moment Carter steps into the wrestling room, he leads by example. Whether he's helping one of our younger wrestlers learn a new technique, encouraging a teammate after a tough match, or showing what true sportsmanship looks like, Carter has become someone our entire program looks up to. He understands that being a great wrestler isn't just about winning—it's about lifting others up along the way.

One of Carter's greatest strengths is his relentless work ethic. Every single practice, every conditioning drill, every live match, and every tournament, Carter gives everything he has. He never backs down from a challenge, no matter how difficult the opponent or how tough the moment. Instead, he embraces those challenges, knowing they are opportunities to grow.

That determination and persistence paid off in an incredible way this season when Carter earned the title of NEMWA State Champion. While that championship trophy is an amazing accomplishment, it is only part of Carter's story. What truly makes us proud is the countless hours of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication that happened long before he stood on top of the podium.

Carter has shown our younger wrestlers that success doesn't happen overnight. It comes from showing up every day, working hard even when no one is watching, believing in yourself, and treating others with kindness and respect. Those are lessons that will stay with them far beyond the wrestling mat.

Carter, thank you for being an outstanding teammate, an incredible role model, and a leader our program is proud to call one of our own. Your perseverance, humility, and heart have made a lasting impact on Meridian Youth Wrestling, and we couldn't be more proud of everything you've accomplished.

Congratulations on an unforgettable season and your NEMWA State Championship. We can't wait to see what the future holds for you. Keep chasing greatness—we'll be cheering you on every step of the way!

Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang. 💙🤼
