Last week we attended the ribbon-cutting on new transitional housing for unhoused Veterans with The Neighborhood Center 2026 Point in Time count, found more than 1700 homeless veterans in Florida, a number we know is a vast under estimation. This will be the first Veteran's centered housing in West Volusia county. We are very proud to be part of this project and others with the Neighborhood Center of West Volusia!

Big Nova Foundation began with a family asking a simple question, what do we care about enough to do something about?

For Sarah Asma and her family, pediatric cancer was at the top of that list after her niece's experience with a rare form of leukemia changed the trajectory of their family.

That personal experience eventually became part of a broader philanthropic journey supporting pediatric cancer research and other community needs throughout Central Florida.

Sarah's story is a powerful example of how philanthropy can grow from personal experience into sustained action, while remaining open to learning where support is needed most.

Research doesn't always work the first time. In fact, uncertainty is part of the process.

On Game Over: c*ncer, Sarah Asma shares how Big Nova Foundation approaches research funding with an action-oriented mindset. When one of their first research investments didn't work as hoped, the researchers were worried about telling them.

Instead of seeing it as a failure, the family's response was, what's the next step?

Supporting innovation means being willing to take risks, learn from what doesn't work, and continue moving toward better answers for children with cancer.

To kick off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Cannonball Kids' cancer Foundation had us on their Game Over Cancer podcast to talk about our experience and why now more than ever we have to support kids who are fighting for their lives.

Excited to help RISE bring their work to Seminole County!

We're deeply grateful to Big Nova Foundation for their generous support of families experiencing homelessness in Seminole County.

Together, we served 85 families - including 165 children - through our Pathways to Home program this past year, including 27 families in Seminole County. That support included ongoing case management and housing maintenance services for families we'd previously housed, as well as helping 15 Seminole County families move into new, permanent housing.

And we're not stopping at case management. With Big Nova Foundation's support, we're expanding our work in Seminole County to bring families together through peer support groups and new opportunities for connection - building community alongside stability. Stay tuned for more updates!

Behind every number is a family finding safety and the chance to build a future together. Thank you, Big Nova Foundation, for believing in our community and investing in families when they need it most.

Salvation Army in Sanford is part of Seminole County's Emergency Management Response Team. With a Big Nova Foundation grant they were able to purchase a specialized mobile Disaster Unit so they can reach people who aren't able to get out to get help. Salvation Army has been part of the Sanford community for decades and we're proud to support their work.

Last week we participated in the wall raising ceremony at Legacy Square- Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka 's new community of homes in Sanford. We know the lack of affordable housing is driving the homelessness crisis in our area and are committed to the fight to change that.
