Georgetown Steering Team Georgetown Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places Oct. 8, 2020

The goal of the Georgetown Steering Committee is to bring the community of Georgetown to a national level of recognition. We want to make sure that the legacy of Georgetown is preserved appropriately and is sustained to keep the richness of our historical culture for everybody to experience. We are proud to announce the Georgetown Historic District in Sanford was added to the National Register of

Historic Places on October 8, 2020. The National Register is a list of historic buildings and sites in the United States that are worthy of preservation. The City of Sanford helped facilitate the process of adding value to an already highly valued community. We also partner with Historic Hopper Academy, Goldsboro Museum, Sanford Museum, Riches Mosaic Interface and the University of Central Florida.

We are excited to invite you to a special presentation of “The Roots of Entrepreneurship in Parramore,” a digital exhibit exploring the impact of Black entrepreneurs in Orlando’s historic Parramore district. This interactive, map-based exhibit highlights the role of
business owners from 1870 to 2020 in building the infrastructure that shaped the future of their community.

Our presentation will take place on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30pm in the DeVos Family Room at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and will provide an overview of the project with a special focus on the period from 1870 to 1965. The UCF Department of History RICHES Digital Archiving Project Team will showcase the exhibit’s interactive elements, detailing the businesses that thrived in Parramore and their significance in challenging societal expectations during segregation. A second panel, featuring students and Parramore historians, will discuss the community engagement efforts that made this project possible, including the collection of oral histories, images, and memorabilia.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore additional archival images, listen to oral histories, and participate in a discussion on Parramore’s business history and legacy.

You must have a ticket! Tickets are free! Here’s where you can get your ticket:
