In Loving Memory of Kanab ❤️
On September 22, 2026, Kanab crossed the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 14, where he was finally reunited with his beloved mom, Kelly, on the other side.
Kanab was adopted by Kelly from Best Friends Animal Society, and from the very beginning, he was something special. He earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification and went on to become a therapy dog—a perfect role for a dog whose greatest gift was simply being there.
Kanab and Kelly made many therapy visits together, most often to a juvenile detention facility. While some dogs might have been eager to be the center of attention, Kanab was perfectly content to be the quiet one.
He was the one who never needed to demand attention to make an impact.
There was something incredibly special about Kanab’s gentle presence. He had a way of quietly offering comfort simply by being beside someone. He didn’t need to do anything extraordinary. He just needed to be Kanab.
In his final days, Kanab declined quickly. After some testing, it appeared that cancer had spread throughout his body. He was no longer eating, and in his own quiet way, he let his family know that he was ready to go.
And so, on September 22nd, he was allowed to leave peacefully, surrounded by love.
While we are left to feel the heartbreak of his absence, there is comfort in imagining what waited for him on the other side. After being separated from Kelly, Kanab finally got to find his way back to her.
Perhaps she was there waiting for him, just as she had so many times before.
And perhaps, true to form, Kanab quietly waited his turn until it was time to go home.
Fourteen years is never long enough. But what a beautiful life Kanab had. He was loved, he had a purpose, he helped people, and he spent his life making a difference in the quiet way that only Kanab could.
Kanab was the quiet one.
The easy one.
The patient one.
And sometimes, those are the ones who leave the biggest empty space when they’re gone.
Run free, sweet Kanab. Your work here is done. Go find your mom, give her the biggest hug, and rest easy knowing you were deeply loved.
