✨ It was anyone’s guess what Utah Wildlife Foundation’s very first patient would be! Our founders were betting on an owl, maybe an American robin, or even a Cooper’s Hawk. But the winner was a tiny surprise! 🦆

Meet "Cutie Duck", a lone mallard duckling rescued by a young hero who gave her the sweetest name. Not long after, patient #2 waddled in, "Lemons"! Her rescue was a bit more dramatic: swept away by a river, clinging to a branch, and saved by another brave soul who jumped in to bring her to safety.

These two ducklings quickly became best friends and stuck together through their entire rehab journey. From day one, they reminded us why we do what we do—because every little life matters. 💚

Here’s to Cutie Duck and Lemons, the dynamic duo who started it all! 🐥🐥

A huge thank you to Watershed Pub and Kitchen and Good Enough for Grunge for hosting and creating a fundraiser for our organization last week. After finding an injured duck (Tito) and bringing it to us, they went a step further by organizing this event to support our work.

Thanks to their generosity, we raised over $600, which will go directly toward rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for injured and orphaned birds. Thanks to supporters like this, our mission to protect and nurture wildlife continues to grow.

Be sure to check out Watershed Pub and Kitchen and Good Enough for Grunge and support these wonderful community partners!

💧A Kestrel's Wild Adventure - and a Hero Named Bob!🦅

Sometimes nature throws us a curve-ball, and this little kestrel falcon certainly did! While out paddle boarding, Bob spotted what he thought was a lifeless bird floating in the water. Curious and concerned, he paddled over—only to discover the bird was still moving!

With incredible care, Bob used his paddle to lift the soaked falcon onto his board and brought him safely to shore. For over an hour, Bob stayed by his side, hoping the young kestrel would recover and fly away. But after such a harrowing ordeal, the little guy was simply too exhausted. That’s when Bob called us!

Upon arrival, the kestrel was chilled so was placed in a warm brooder. Once cozy and dry, he perked up quickly! We kept a close eye on him for a few days to ensure nothing else was wrong with his health. After confirming he was back to full strength, our volunteer April met Bob near the rescue site for the best part of the story—the release! Watching him soar back into his home was pure joy. Release video to be posted next!!

We may never know what inspired this kestrel to try out his “flippers,” but thanks to Bob’s quick thinking and compassion, this story has a happy ending. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, Bob, for being a true wildlife hero!

Did you know that bird's learn what species they are by looking at their parents and siblings? This process is known as imprinting. In wildlife rehabilitation we face the unique challenge of keeping wildlife wild. Part of that task is making sure young birds do not see humans during those critical life stages.

This brings us to our current call for help! We are working on raising some young hawks and could use the talent of a local artist in making some puppets for us to feed the babies with. If this is something you can help with please message us here on Facebook for more information.

We are excited to open our doors tomorrow!
