Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy Providing for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is our passion.

Official nonprofit partner of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, working with you to preserve & enhance your local national park 🌳
Join us at chattahoocheeparks.org We work with the National Park Service and other partners to inspire people to support projects and programs that protect the park’s natural and cultural resources and enrich visitor experience. Through collaboration with th

e park superintendent, staff and stakeholders, we identity projects and raise funds for priority initiatives that the federal government is unable to cover. Our primary goal is to build community support through awareness and translate the public’s love of the Chattahoochee River into tangible good for the park. Our organization, Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy, is membership-based and volunteer-powered. We raise funds to help bring underserved youth to the park every year to learn about the river and its surroundings which are rich in natural and human history. We support the park with thousands of volunteer hours annually, events (cleanups, river celebrations and plantings) and funds to maintain and restore the trail system and improve park units and facilities.

G.O. 🗣️

That stands for: Get Outdoors - because it’s National Get Outdoors Day!

Whether for recreation or volunteer service, there’s space for you at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area today (and everyd ay). As summer kicks in, you’ll find folks hiking at Gold Branch, Johnson Ferry, Bowmans Island, or one of the other 15 units. When you look over toward the river, you might see some visitors paddling, tubing, or fishing. If you head over to Cochran Shoals, you’ll find Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy conducting a river cleanup with our volunteers.

Weather permitting, we hope you will join these groups and enjoy your public lands! If you want to know more about ways you can recreate at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, please visit chattahoocheeparks.org/explore-crnra

Thank you for sticking with us throughout construction. We can't wait for you to get back out there to enjoy your favorite trails, and maybe discover a new favorite along the way.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend on the trails! 🌿

This Sunday, June 14th is a 2026 Fee-Free Day across all national parks, offering visitors free entry to their favorite parks for the day! 🇺🇸

Observed each year on June 14, Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag in 1777 and serves as a celebration of the country’s history, symbols, and shared public spaces, including national parks. When you drive into Island Ford, as you reach the last curve toward the final parking lot, you’ll begin to see a beautiful wood lodge come into view. 🏚️☀️

Adorned with the National Park Service Logo front and center, it serves as the main welcome into our beautiful National Park - Hewlett Lodge. Originally constructed in the 1930s as a summer home for former Georgia Supreme Court Justice Samuel Hewlett, it later served as a children’s summer camp before it was eventually acquired by the Park Service just after the Park’s inception, in 1979.

Today, the Lodge serves as a resource to park visitors. Here, you will find all of your informational booklets/pamphlets, park maps, and neat merchandise to take home. The walls are covered with pictures, paintings, and information about the history of the park and its surrounding land. Behind the front desk, Park Rangers are there to answer your questions and help you pick up your daily, annual, or America the Beautiful pass. If you have a Park Passport - you can get that stamped here. Come check out the Park’s headquarters!

Law enforcement rangers of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area are out and about in the park with their new vehicle decals! 🛻

With the old decals beginning to age, the National Park Service has sent updated designs to better distinguish standard Park Service vehicles from law enforcement. The trucks look sharp, rangers are happy, and we're grateful for their help in keeping visitors and wildlife safe every day!

A National Trails Day for the books! 🌿🎉

More than 60 volunteers joined us at Island Ford alongside our friends from REI Perimeter to help care for the trails we all know and love. Together, volunteers improved trail corridors, removed invasive species, closed social trails, removed infrastructure from rerouted trail segments, and helped put the finishing touches on the Island Ford Trail Project!

Days like this are a reminder that great trails don't happen by accident, but because our amazing community members are willing to spend their time, energy, and effort investing in the future of their park. 💚

To every volunteer, crew leader, partner, and supporter who joined us: thank you. Your hard work is helping create a more sustainable trail system that will serve visitors for generations to come!

Here's to healthier trails, stronger community connections, and many more miles of adventure ahead. Happy National Trails Day! 🥾

“If we won the lottery we wouldn’t tell anyone, but there will be signs…”

We certainly feel like we won the lottery thanks to the support of our community helping the Island Ford Trail Project go from “coming soon” ➡️ “it’s almost here”! You’ll notice new signage along the trail as the project wraps up. We can’t wait to give you an official welcome back very soon!

Please join us in welcoming K. Lynn Berry as the new Superintendent of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area!

K. Lynn joins CRNRA after serving as Superintendent of several national park units in California, including Rosie the Riveter / WWII Home Front National Historical Park, John Muir National Historic Site, Eugene O’Neill National Historic Site, Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial, and the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. Over 16 years with the National Park Service, she’s also worked as the Superintendent of Congaree National Park and for two regional offices in division, and program management.

She may have been called to work in other locations at times, but the place she has called home for more than 25 years is Atlanta. She tells us she's excited to be back and is looking forward to joining the Chattahoochee community out there on the river and the trails. We're thrilled to welcome Superintendent K. Lynn Berry to the park and look forward to working together to support and steward this special place!

As we welcome Lynn, we also want to extend our gratitude to Acting Superintendent Patrick Gamman as his detail with CRNRA comes to a close, and as he returns to his permanent role as Superintendent of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Since September, Patrick has provided steady leadership during a pivotal chapter for the park, whether navigating operational challenges and periods of uncertainty to helping guide the park through a federal government shutdown. We're so grateful for Patrick's thoughtful leadership and service, and we wish him all the best as he returns to Kennesaw Mountain!

Please join us in welcoming K. Lynn and thanking Patrick for his leadership and support of the Chattahoochee! 👏

The final phase of the Island Ford Trail Project is almost complete! 🌲

Join Brittany for a behind-the-scenes look at construction of the Visitor Center trailhead, where improvements are being made to address erosion, enhance sustainability, and create a better experience for everyone exploring the park. From improved grading to new timber steps, this updated trailhead will provide safer, more resilient access to Island Ford's trail system and serve as a welcoming starting point for future adventures on the Chattahoochee.

As this project comes to a close, we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of our supporters who made this work possible. Your commitment to the park helps ensure these trails remain resilient, accessible, and enjoyed by future generations!
