We’re proud to congratulate Ms. Keya Burgess and her class for creating the winning door, “Black Authors that Made History.”

As the school year comes to a close, we’re looking back with gratitude at one of our favorite moments from this spring. During Sandy Springs Charter Middle School’s Celebrating Black Excellence event, students and teachers brought Black history to life through a classroom door decorating contest.

Their door honored writers like Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Amanda Gorman, Langston Hughes, Angie Thomas, Jason Reynolds and Jacqueline Woodson, reminding students that stories can shape history, open minds and help us see what’s possible.

Thank you, Ms. Burgess, for helping students celebrate Black excellence with creativity, care and purpose.

Election Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19.

Tonight is the time to make sure you know where you are going. Election Day polling places are assigned by precinct, which means your Tuesday voting location may be different from the early voting site you used before.

Do your homework,
Check My Voter Page, to see which races apply to you, so that you can be prepared to vote all the way down the ballot.
Pack your photo ID and decide when you will go. Polls are open from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Local and nonpartisan elections help decide who represents our community at every level. Vote the full ballot.

Georgia lawmakers considered a proposal to cut the state Low-Income Housing Tax Credit match from a full match to 50%, but that proposal stalled.

At the same time, HB 1199 placed a temporary $100 million annual cap on the state housing tax credit for 2026 through 2028.
The takeaway for Sandy Springs: state-level incentives matter, but local choices still shape what gets built and who can afford to live here.

Today is the last day to vote early in Fulton County.

If you vote today, you can still use any advance voting location in the county. If you wait until Election Day, you must vote at your assigned precinct.

That makes today the simpler option for many voters. Bring your photo ID, check the Fulton County early voting list and get it done before locations close at 7 PM.

Find your nearest location and go today.

05/14/2026

Early voting is open in Fulton County, and this is the final few days to early vote so make your plan.

A bill that could reshape how Sandy Springs handles homelessness recently passed the Georgia legislature — after midnight on the final night of session.

HB 295 allows property owners to sue cities over homelessness enforcement. Instead of investing in services that reduce homelessness, this creates a legal mechanism that could drain city budgets through lawsuits.

It has since been signed by Governor Kemp. Here's what you need to know — and what you can do about it.
