Today we recognize Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free.

It marks freedom delayed and the ongoing work of making freedom real in every community.

Sandy Springs Together honors this day with reflection, gratitude and a commitment to building a community where every neighbor can belong, participate and thrive.

Today is Election Day for the Georgia General Primary Runoff.

Runoffs matter because turnout drops. Your vote carries more weight than in the earlier Primary Election.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you did not vote early, today is the day. You must vote at your assigned Election Day polling place, which may be different from an advance voting location.

Bring valid photo ID, and check My Voter Page before you leave to make sure you’ve got the right polling location.

Advance voting is open for the June 16 General Primary Runoff Election and, as of today, fewer than 2,500 Sandy Springs residents have cast their ballots. That’s less than 4% of our electorate!

Runoffs matter because turnout often drops after the first election, which means fewer voters can decide who appears on the November ballot.

For a party primary runoff:

🗳️ If you voted in the May primary you can only vote in that party’s primary runoffs.

🗳️ If you did not vote in the May primary, you can still vote in the runoff and choose either party’s ballot.

📍 Fulton County voters may vote early at any advance voting location through Friday, June 12 at 7 pm.

Housing affordability depends on a lot of moving pieces: land, financing, developers, local rules, public investment and state tools that help make home construction possible.

One of those tools is the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.

Many affordable apartment communities in Sandy Springs were built with LIHTC support. This year, Georgia reduced by half, its state housing credit, capping it at $100 million per year through 2028, which means fewer resources for building and preserving homes that working families can afford.
