What’s next for the Sandy Springs Next Chapter Comprehensive Plan?

We are all waiting with anticipation. Were our voices heard? Were there ideas others offered that we did not hear? Are there ideas that we don’t understand or agree with? Let’s all pull together and be ready to get engaged when the results are released.

The first phase of community input is wrapping up. Residents had opportunities to weigh in online and at public meetings in June and August, sharing what they want Sandy Springs to protect, improve and become.

Now the process moves into the next stage: turning community input into goals, priorities and draft policy direction.

This is not a one-meeting process. More opportunities to engage will come as the plan develops.

Women’s Equality Day marks the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which prohibited denying the right to vote on the basis of s*x.

It was a major milestone—but it was not the end of the struggle for equal participation. Many women, especially women of color, continued to face barriers to voting and civic life.

Today, equality also means making sure women can participate fully in the decisions shaping their communities—from housing and transportation to public safety, education and economic opportunity.

We honor the progress that has been made by continuing the work and making room for every voice.

A stronger Sandy Springs starts with listening.

That means listening to longtime homeowners. It also means listening to renters, workers, young families, seniors and residents whose voices are too often missing from public meetings.

As our city makes decisions about housing, transportation, parks, growth and community needs, public input matters.

Being heard doesn’t always start with a perfect conversation. Sometimes it starts with one honest one. Feeling unheard can be lonely, especially for students navigating school, family and mental health.

How would our perspectives change if we had to spend a week as a teenager in 2026? Sometimes, all you have to do is ask. In this clip, North Springs students talk about the gap between what adults remember from their teenage years and what teens are living through now.

Students are asking adults not to dismiss what they are experiencing: the technology is different, the pressures are different, and it’s not simple or easy.

Before assuming a student is being dramatic, distracted or difficult, ask what might be going on underneath.

Young people are not only the future of Sandy Springs. They are part of our community right now.

On International Youth Day, we celebrate the students and young residents whose perspectives can help us build a stronger city.

Decisions about housing, transportation, parks, schools, mental health and public spaces affect their daily lives. Their voices should help shape those decisions.

Listening to young people means more than asking for input. It means taking their experiences seriously and showing them where their ideas appear in the decisions that follow.

There is another chance coming up to help shape the city’s Next Chapter. The next public input meeting for The Next Chapter Comprehensive Plan will be held Monday, August 17, from 6 to 8 PM at Church of the Redeemer.

Offering your ideas during this planning process will help guide decisions about housing, transportation, parks, recreation, growth and community priorities for years to come. Public input matters, and showing up is one of the most direct ways residents can make their voices heard.
