Every maternal death leaves more than grief behind.

It leaves children without mothers.
Families navigating loss.
Grandmothers stepping in to hold everything together.

At Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project™, we exist for those families.

Through programs like GRAMMS™ and the SHALON Method™, we provide healing, support, and pathways to advocacy — so no one has to navigate this alone.

But this work doesn’t happen without community.

Your support helps us:
• Create spaces for healing
• Support caregivers and families
• Train leaders and advocates
• Push for systems that protect mothers’ lives

If you believe every mother deserves to live — and every family deserves support — we invite you to give.

There are some spaces that remind families they are not carrying grief alone.

This weekend, members of our team attended the Kate’s Club Mourning Glory Gala, which raised more than $400,000 to support children and families experiencing traumatic loss.

Beyond the fundraising, the evening created something equally important: connection.

For families navigating loss — especially around Mother’s Day — being in a room filled with understanding, compassion, and shared experience can be deeply healing. Seeing Soleil and Ms. Wanda feel reflected in the mission and community surrounding Kate’s Club was incredibly meaningful.

Dr. Shalon’s MAP is grateful to continue supporting organizations creating spaces where children, caregivers, and families feel seen, supported, and held with care.

Congratulations to co-chairs Austen Tully and Janis Middleton on a beautiful evening and impactful work.

Happy Mother’s Day to Wanda Irving, our founder, and Bianca Pryor, our co-founder.

Mother’s Day can hold many emotions at once.

For some, it’s celebration.
For others, it’s grief, absence, transition, or responsibility that arrived sooner than expected.

And for families impacted by maternal mortality, this day can feel very different.

Today, we’re holding space for the mothers who are here, the mothers who are missed, the grandmothers who stepped in, and the caregivers carrying love and loss at the same time.

Thank you to Wanda Irving, the board, and the team for holding space for a reality no one wants.

Black women with college degrees
are 60% more likely to die than white women without a high school diploma.

There’s a belief that education protects you.

That if you know more, have more, prepare more… you’ll be safer.

But the data tells a different story.

Black women with college degrees are still at higher risk.

Because maternal mortality isn’t just about knowledge.

It’s about systems, bias, and how care is delivered.

GRAMMS™ is for you if…

You’ve lost a daughter to maternal mortality.
You’re raising children in the midst of grief.
You’re navigating systems that weren’t built to support you.
You’re looking for community that understands, without explanation.

This is a space for grandmothers.
For caregivers.
For women carrying both love and loss at the same time.

At GRAMMS™, you don’t have to choose between grieving and being strong.

You get to be both.

You belong here.

Most people don’t see what happens after a maternal death.

A grandmother steps in.
A sister steps in.

Grieving… while raising children.
Navigating loss… while holding a family together.

GRAMMS™ — Grandmothers Rallying Against Maternal Mortality Sisterhood — was created for these women.

Not just as support.
But as a healing-centered sisterhood.

A space to:
• Be seen
• Be supported
• Be heard
• And step into advocacy

Because no one should have to carry this alone.
