Toys for Tots Ride
Open Roads ABATE was represented in the Toys for Tots Run on August 22 with Bill & Robin Stanley and Sam & Sharyl Mataya participating. The Run began at Top Fuel Saloon in Braidwood and ended at Babe’s Tap & Grill/Spivey’s Saloon in Coal City. Participants donated towards this event as well as a new toy for children to enjoy this Christmas. Pictured are Robin & Bill Stanley and Sharyl & Sam Mataya before the ride for Toys for Tots.

Open Roads ABATE Route 66 Ride
Open Roads members toured Route 66 yesterday in Pontiac, Gardner, and Wilmington. They stopped at the Route 66 museum in Pontiac and stopped in Gardner and Wilmington to check out Route 66 memorabilia. It was a fun trip with Diana Rebechini, Phil & Gail Brown, and Elizabeth Buikema.

The ABATE of Illinois State Raffle is coming down to the wire! On Sunday, September 6, the winners of this year’s State Raffle prizes will be drawn in Springfield!

ABATE of Illinois State Coordinator Chris Hansen will be drawing the winning tickets during an incredible day of motorcycle racing at the legendary Springfield Mile.

Open Roads ABATE Chapter Picnic and meeting were yesterday, August 29, at the Sandwich VFW. A variety of salads, desserts, appetizers, and side dishes were brought to the picnic by chapter members with Sandwiches by Art’s Supermarket as the main course. Children played games outdoors once it quit raining. Kevin Bramel, our NW Region ABATE Coordinator made an entrance in an Uncle Sam(ish) outfit and gave updates on current events. Sam Mataya, Open Roads ABATE President, did a fine job coordinating the meeting with officers giving reports, updates on events, and legislative current happenings. Our next meeting is Sunday, November 1, 5 pm, at the Sandwich VFW.

Northwest Region ABATE Chapters and ABATE of IL, Inc. held a Parking Lot Party at Starved Rock Harley Davidson yesterday (August 29). There were many family oriented things to do - live music, children’s games, bounce house, vendors, biker games, test drives, raffles, and more. ABATE members sold bike raffle tickets, gun raffle tickets, and signed up new members. Open Roads was represented – Sam & Sharyl Mataya, Lori Meyer, Cliff & Linda Oleson. ABATE of IL, Inc. Assistant State Coordinator, Todd Farthing and his wife Susan, ABATE of IL, Inc. Public Relations Coordinator, Badger and his fiancé Taylor represented ABATE of IL, Inc. Kevin Bramel, Northwest Region ABATE Coordinator, and several Starved Rock ABATE members coordinated this event.
