211 Returns to Erie County, Connecting Residents to Critical Resources and Support
SANDUSKY, OHIO — United Way of Erie County is proud to support the return of 211 to Erie County, providing residents with a simple, trusted way to access critical health and human services across the community.
211 is a free, confidential information and referral service that helps individuals and families connect to essential local resources. By dialing 211, residents can access support for food assistance, housing and utility support, transportation, mental health services, healthcare access, employment resources, and other community programs.
For many working households living paycheck to paycheck—often referred to as ALICE families (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed)—one unexpected setback can quickly create a crisis. A missed paycheck, car repair, childcare issue, or utility bill can significantly impact a family’s stability and ability to move forward.
The return of 211 creates a centralized front door for help, making it easier for Erie County residents to find support when they need it most.
“211 is more than a phone number—it is a lifeline,” said E.J. Brinson, Executive Director of United Way of Erie County. “When someone doesn’t know where to turn, 211 helps them take the next step. One call can connect people to resources, support, and hope.
We are grateful to Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Children and Youth Director Kara Wente for their leadership and support in expanding access to this critical service across Ohio. United Way is also proud to partner with the Mansfield Richland County Public Library on this important initiative to bring 211 service back to Erie County.
This is about building a stronger support system for our community. When people can access help faster, we reduce barriers, strengthen families, and create better pathways forward.”
“We are thrilled to build the local partnerships necessary to resume and sustain a successful 211 service for Erie County residents,” said Terry Carter, 211 Coordinator at the Mansfield Richland County Public Library.
“While the initial statewide expansion focuses attention on programs for expecting and new parents, as well as families with children, the larger vision is creating a robust database of resources for all Ohioans—regardless of age, income, or household composition.
Any local nonprofit service provider, government office, or faith-based organization that offers programs to the public is encouraged to provide their details to the 211 staff by completing the online form at uweriecounty.org/211-2 or by emailing Amanda Crowley at [email protected].
Having resources submitted and updated directly by the organizations providing services makes all the difference in the quality of assistance received by those calling for help.”
A soft launch has already occurred, with a full public launch expected in July 2026. Several local agencies and service providers have already completed the 211 Agency Details Form, helping strengthen the local resource database and improve service quality for residents seeking assistance.
United Way of Erie County is continuing to work with partners to build the local infrastructure, partnerships, and operational capacity necessary to fully bring 211 service back home to Erie County.
To help ensure long-term sustainability, United Way of Erie County is also seeking community contributions and partner support to assist with the ongoing operational costs needed to maintain and grow 211 services in Erie County.
The relaunch of 211 also strengthens Erie County’s ability to better understand community needs through data and coordinated response efforts. By tracking call trends and service requests, community leaders and service providers can identify resource gaps, improve collaboration, and respond more effectively to emerging community needs.
United Way of Erie County encourages residents, employers, healthcare providers, schools, faith communities, and local agencies to help spread awareness about 211 so more people know help is only three digits away.
Residents in need of assistance can simply dial 211 to be connected to available services and support.
Dial 211. Help Starts Here. United is the Way.
