Forty years ago, Springs began as a small agency in a small town. We have carried that close-knit spirit with us ever since. But Sand Springs has grown, and so have we! In recent months, our team passed 120 employees, making this the largest team in our history. That is a milestone worth celebrating.

Today, we’re also celebrating Donna Goddard, who recently earned her HR Management Certificate through the Accelerated HR Management Certificate Program!

Donna puts tremendous care and effort into supporting our employees. Much of that work happens behind the scenes; its impact, however, reaches throughout Springs. This certificate builds on her experience and dedication, bringing additional tools and current best practices to help our growing team thrive.

We are thankful for the employees who put their hearts into supporting the individuals we serve. Investing in their support is one way we put that gratitude into action.

The history of Sand Springs reaches far beyond the founding of our city. We honor the Osage people whose ancestral homelands include this area, the Cherokee people who settled here, and the Muscogee (Creek) families who built a community around the springs before the town we know today took shape.

We are grateful for the generations who cared for this land, sustained their communities, and passed down knowledge and traditions rooted in responsibility to one another and to the places they called home.

That gratitude also asks us to be honest. Our shared history includes forced removal, displacement, broken promises, and losses that continue to affect Indigenous communities. Honoring that history means making room for difficult truths and listening to the people whose stories are too often left out. These nations remain living communities, our neighbors, and an essential part of our present and future.

At Springs, Inc., we honor the traditions of community care and stewardship within these tribal communities. We are committed to putting those values into practice through supporting people with disabilities, responding to the needs of others, using resources thoughtfully, and caring for the environment we share.

We know that expressing gratitude carries a responsibility to act. May our work reflect respect for those who cared for this place before us, solidarity with those who care for it today, and consideration for those who will call it home after us.

Our office windows received some beautiful new artwork today, celebrating people with disabilities and their place in our community.

The people we have the privilege of supporting at Springs Inc are neighbors, friends, and family members, each with their own interests, dreams, and stories. They deserve to see themselves represented in the everyday life of our town.

With the Downtown Sand Springs’ Halloween Festival "Boo at the Box" coming up in a few weeks, these windows will greet plenty of people. Hopefully, they’ll inspire someone to pause, start a conversation, or consider an experience different from their own.

Sometimes a small moment of recognition can open the door to greater understanding and belonging. May these windows offer that little spark.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth.

It is a day to honor liberation, remember the Black Americans who endured and resisted slavery, and celebrate the strength, resilience, culture, and joy of a community that survived the unimaginable.

June 19, 1865, marked the day when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That history reminds us that freedom promised is not always freedom fully experienced.

At Springs, Inc., our work is grounded in the belief that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, belonging, and the freedom to shape their own life. For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, those principles are especially meaningful. Too often, people with disabilities have faced exclusion, segregation, limited choices, and decisions being made for them rather than with them.

We also recognize that identities and experiences overlap. Black people with disabilities have often encountered barriers related to both race and disability. Honoring Juneteenth means making room for those stories and acknowledging that the work of building truly welcoming and accessible communities belongs to all of us.

Freedom is more than the absence of restraint. It is having a voice. It is being included. It is having meaningful choices, access to opportunity, and the support needed to pursue a full and self-directed life.

Juneteenth reminds us of where we have been, how far we have come, and why we must continue working toward communities in which every person is respected, valued, and empowered.

We deeply appreciate everyone who joins Springs, Inc. in this important work. Together, we can continue breaking down barriers, expanding possibilities, and building a community where freedom and belonging are available to everyone.
