The Sand Lake Chamber of Commerce canceled Winterfest because the Village denied their event application. You might ask, why?
Well, the two entities are at each other. The Chamber alleges that Mollie Deur, Village President, fraudulently got her daughter elected Miss Sand Lake. Then Mollie accused the Chamber of mishandling funds. On and on it goes.
Suggestion: everyone involved in these two groups (Chamber and Village) need to resign their positions and sashay away. They are the problem. They are the common denominator in all the years that problems keep occurring. They need to go away and stay completely out of anything to do with the Village or the Chamber. They and any family member. Let all new people come in and take a stab at running things.
Go away and stay away.

It is official. The Village council approved the second dispensary. This information came directly from the company that is opening the dispensary. It is slated for opening in August.

I would like an explanation from Kevin Wright, Mollie "McFellon" and Marcia Helton about why they approved this. They campaigned on the promise they would never allow a second dispensary in the Village!! Yet, here we are with another one approved. Will we hold them accountable in November???
Someone needs to come forward to run against these people in November. It's not a glamorous job but there has to be some Village residents that are willing to take on the establishment, run for office and do what they promise, once elected. Time for a change.

Can anyone confirm the new dispensary going in where the Wooden Nickel was? Didn't this very president and board run on a platform of not allowing another dispensary?

Don't get this post wrong. It isn't about the legalization of Ma*****na; it is about the hypocrisy of the president and the board, if this proves to be true.

Anyone else sick of playing Frogger on E Lake St in order to avoided the gigantic potholes? Maybe if everyone calls the DPW and asks them to fill them, we can get them out there to do it! This is a call to action! I'm about ready to go plant flowers in them. At least then there will be something done with them! Lol

Is this posting accurate? Is Paradise Cove turning into a year round trailer park? If you are a Village of Sand Lake resident, please take note of what the listing says the water and sewer quarterly rates are. Do these rares reflect your current rates? What about taxes? $800 a year? Sign me up.

This is a real estate ad for a lot in Paradise Cove in the Village of Sand Lake.

Does anyone have any information about this? Maybe time to start going to council meetings to figure out how we are being sold down the river, again.

This from a prominent, local business owner, and I quote:

"First of all, we want you to know we love Sand Lake, BUT...things have gotten our of hand. We have tried to stay out of the politics and remain "Switzerland" like we were advised before we even began our business. Sand Lake has a well earned reputation for petty corrupt politics and police harrassment. So we have tried to keep our head down and run a decent family owned business supporting the community, and those in need when we can. Things have changed recently and so now we feel the need to make the public aware of the issues we are having. The police have been out in full force pulling everyone over for every tiny thing, and even creating a situation that really is harrassment. Tonight both of our sons were pulled over separately and in different cars and breathalized because they were seen leaving our place. One had a headlight out, the other had the police follow him and eventually ticketed him for going 60 in a 55 after following him and pressuring him to drive faster. Both passed the breathalyzer but our 18 year old fresh out of high school who came in just for dinner and didn't have a drop to drink is now very disillusioned by law enforcement. There was no indications that our 18 year old would even need a breathalizer save for coming out of Aidens. This may technically be ok. But is it right? Is this how we support small business and encourage people to come to Sand Lake? Do we really want a town that could be the setting of Footloose?
The Village would like to work with the Township to contract with Kent County Sherrif to increase these police patrols, with your tax money. There is a Village council meeting Monday, Oct. 16 at 7pm. You have a voice and deserve to be heard. Tell them what you think. We think things are way too...oppressive and unconstitutional. Please, if you love freedom. these are the kind of things that need the small battles fought."

Thoughts on how the 4th of July week went? I was out of town for everything but the severe flooding on Lake Street.
