From Ashley:
For the past 5 months, with the help of 5 amazing women, I have poured any extra time I have had into planning and preparing for the 2nd Annual Super B-Dog 5K. We chose to expand our event this year, adding a memorial mile with the sweet faces of drowning victims, a silent auction, CPR Demonstration, food trucks, bounce house, a step & repeat for photos, trophies, a news station with coverage, and a super hero.
I have lost sleep, worried about every detail, spent hours promoting, putting up fliers, talking to multiple companies looking for partnerships, explaining our story (what feels like 100 times), putting together every detail.
Well this past Saturday everything came together in the most amazing event I think I have ever planned. We had 112 registrants, 23 more than last year! As soon as we hit ground all of our volunteers just knew what to do. We even finished set up an hour early!
As I sit here I can't completely wrap my head around everything because there is just so much that took place and so many great things that I witnessed.
I stood on a stage with families of drowning victims. Some I had never even met. These families were brave enough to stand up for their babies this weekend infront of 100 plus people and proclaim that accidental drownings are preventable and that we as a community have to be louder. None of really wanted to be there that day but all of us have the same mission to make sure no ones else joins our group so we proudly stood infront of everyone and gave this silent killer of 1-4 year olds a face, many faces! I am so proud to have each and everyone of those families by my side.
This is still only the beginning! We are going to make change! We are going to lower and hopefully one day eradicate the number of child hood drownings in AZ.
Thank you to each and everyone of you who came out to support Swim 4 Braxton, my baby, and all of the other families who have lost their child in this way.
I cannot wait to do this again next year and make it even better!!!
