In case you missed the July Newsletter for Rotary District 5150, here's the official announcement:
In a powerful demonstration of unity and dedication to service, the San Rafael Evening and Marin Evening Rotary Clubs have merged to form the new San Rafael Marin Evening Rotary Club. With nearly 50 years of combined Rotary experience, the newly formed club is poised to continue and expand its impactful work in Marin communities and beyond.
The former Marin Evening Rotary Club was originally chartered in 1985 and was the first Rotary Club in Marin to hold regular membership meetings at night. San Rafael Evening Rotary Club chartered in 2014 was known as the young professionals’ club, often attracting graduates from Dominican University of California. Over the past six months, the two clubs determined that joining forces would foster greater collaboration and a higher-level support that would benefit the local community.
“With combined energy and a diverse membership, our opportunities to make a difference will be endless,” said Charter President Stephanie Olson. “We are truly ‘better together’ and embody the Rotary spirit of ‘People of Action.’ Our collaboration strengthens our ability to serve and uplift our community, especially in this post-pandemic era where support and connection are more important than ever.”
By joining forces, the San Rafael Marin Evening Rotary will harness the synergies of both clubs to enhance their service projects and outreach. The focus will be on youth services, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA), student scholarships, and the support of Rotaract and Interact Clubs at St. Raphael’s and Marin Catholic High School. Additionally, the club will continue its vital work with senior initiatives and organizations such as the Center for Domestic Peace, Adopt-A-Family, Homeward Bound, St. Vincent DePaul, and Extra Food.
The San Rafael Marin Evening Rotary is proud to honor public safety workers and teachers in Marin who have shown exceptional dedication. The annual Service Above Self Awards will continue to recognize these local heroes for their invaluable contributions.
As the club moves forward, it remains committed to its mission of service, guided by the principles of fellowship, leadership, and community involvement. The merger represents not just the unification of two clubs but a renewed commitment to making a positive impact in Marin and beyond.
