Founded in San Rafael in 2012, Inside Out Contemporary Ballet creates and performs original contemporary ballets throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and abroad. IOCB is committed to extensive community engagement and site specific work that re-imagines ballet as social practice. Our work is rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration and community building that affirms our core belief that dance can connect each and every one of us.

Presented by Inside Out Contemporary Ballet, the Marin Dance Festival was founded this year to spotlight and celebrate Marin’s vibrant dance community. From contemporary to kathak, jazz to Latin rhythms, ballet to bellydance, urban styles to circus—this festival showcases the incredible talent of local professional artists. A family-friendly celebration of movement, culture, and creativity!

✨Marin folks - come thru! Let’s sweat and connect to beauty and each other 🫀🫁

All ages are welcome! The class is geared towards adults however I LOVE having children in the room so feel free to bring your children to watch, play and join in as they desire.

Class begins with a follow along warm-up followed by some across the floor phrases and culminates with learning choreography.

Class will be held at the beautiful Embrace Yoga Studio, upstairs from Aroma Cafe on 4th St downtown San Rafael.

Class 1: January 28th
Class 2: February 4th
Class 3: February 11th
Class 4: February 18th
Class 5: February 25th
*No class March 3rd
Class 6: March 10th
Class 7: March 17th
Class 8: March 24th

Vanilla is a short dance film that considers global warming, existential dread, and the magnificence of the natural world. The film captures the zeitgeist of the 21st century by way of a little known story about how vanilla is grown, harvested, and processed into the sweetness we know and love.

The Vanilla Planifolia orchid, from which vanilla beans grow, has long served as a symbol of femininity for their resemblance to female reproductive organs. The term 'Mother Earth' is widely used to acknowledge the giving nature of our planet that has given birth to species innumerable. In lieu of the repeal of Roe V Wade, the widespread epidemic of misinformation, and climate change denialism I believe there is an opportunity to draw a parallel between our attitudes of valuing women's rights and the environmental crises we face today. If we can protect & honor women, we may be able to protect & honor the planet.

This film is a poetic grievance for the way we have treated, commodified, and valued the feminine, life-giving and life-sustaining characteristics of our planet and the female womb throughout history.
