Marin County has reduced the average number of veterans experiencing homelessness each month from 120 to five. In this week’s Marin Voice, our Executive Director, Jacqueline Jaffee, asks what would happen if we applied the same focus to families.
At Family Allies of Marin, we have compelling evidence that prevention works. A recent analysis found that 96% of at-risk families who received our assistance remained housed. But it also revealed a critical gap: 75% of families who became homeless in Marin between 2022 and 2024 had not connected with us for prevention assistance before losing their housing.
This gap shows us where to focus next. We can reach families sooner, before a missed rent payment becomes an eviction, and strengthen coordination among Marin’s family-serving agencies.
We’ve seen what’s possible when Marin organizes around a shared goal. We’re optimistic that, together, we can accomplish the same for families.
