Federal climate decisions have consequences here in Marin. Tomorrow’s town hall, co-sponsored by MCL’s Climate Action Working Group, is a chance to hear directly from Congressman Jared Huffman and ask questions about environmental protections, climate policy, and where we go from here.

Just a reminder that climate resilience starts at home.

With Daniel Swain warning of a historic El Niño, now is the time to prepare for winter storms. Rising seas and heavier rainfall associated with a warming climate increase Marin’s vulnerability to flooding.

Check your emergency supplies, understand your home’s flood risk, and plan ahead for sandbags if needed.

A traffic island transformed into wildlife habitat—recent MCL Environmental Award winner Marcia Basalla’s work at Pacheco Valle is an inspiring story of local stewardship.

Marcia just shared an encouraging update: a recent count found about 50 monarch caterpillars on the island and another 35–40 on milkweed across the street, showing how even small spaces can support Marin’s biodiversity.

Tomorrow, climate scientist Dr. Daniel Swain will discuss what a potentially powerful El Niño could mean for Marin, including heavy rainfall, inland flooding, and prolonged coastal and bayside flooding. Elevated local sea levels could compound long-term trends and potentially push water above historic levels along key transportation corridors, including highways 101 and 37. His presentation will be followed by a panel of local specialists and audience Q&A.

Wednesday, Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m.

California needs more housing, reliable infrastructure, and a permitting process that works. Public input and protections for clean air, water, and wildlife belong in that process.

MCL Executive Director Rebecca Schwartz Lesberg explains how Proposition 45 would weaken environmental review and give people less time to weigh in on projects that affect their communities.

MCL supports thoughtful permitting reform and urges a NO vote on Proposition 45.
