Dedication to Special Education Children with special needs will reach their full potential in living and learning. This is the core

Dedication to Special Education is an all-volunteer parent organization committed to improving special education in Marin County. Dedication to Special Education is a community partnership in every way: parents, educators, and community coming together to benefit all children with special needs in the schools. We operate under the financial auspices of the Marin County Office of Education, qualifying as a tax-exempt public agency under IRS section 170(c)(1). While the Marin County Office of Education is our fiscal sponsor, we decide where the money goes. Since 1997 we have raised over $2 million for our programs in Marin County. We created and continue to fund the Technology Resource Center of Marin, and have invested over $400,000 directly in the classrooms through our Grants to Special Educators Program. Our success is dependent upon community partnership, and we strive to maintain and develop long-term relationships with our families, schools, and local businesses.

On Sunday, June 28 from 11:30 AM–1:30 PM, Hamilton Community Pool in Novato is hosting a dedicated Adaptive Swim Experience designed specifically for individuals with physical, cognitive, or sensory adaptive needs.

That means reduced attendance, lower noise levels, fewer distractions — and two full hours of water time in a space that’s built for you.

Whether you’re building water confidence, practicing skills, or just having fun, this is your kind of swim day.

🎨 Art camp designed with your child in mind.

Youth in Arts is hosting an Accessible Summer Camp for youth with disabilities — two sessions, two incredible experiences, one incredibly supportive environment.

🎵 Music Camp — June 22–26, 1–4 PM (ages 11–15)
🖌️ Visual Arts Camp — July 27–31, 9 AM–12 PM (ages 8–12)

With a 1:4 student-to-teacher ratio and teaching artists experienced in working with students with disabilities, campers explore, create, and connect at their own pace. Aides are always welcome. No one is ever forced to do anything they don’t want to do.

$375/week. Financial assistance may be available through your regional center social worker.

The relationship between a family and their child’s special education teacher is unlike almost any other.

They know your child. They’ve celebrated the tiny wins with you. They’ve sat across from you in hard meetings and kept going.

Here are five specific, meaningful ways to say thank you this week:

1. Write a handwritten note — and be specific. Mention one thing your child has learned or one moment you’ll remember.

2. Send a note to the principal. Teachers rarely hear what parents say up the chain. An email saying “this teacher changed our year” means more than you know.

3. Ask what they actually need. Sometimes it’s a specific supply. Sometimes it’s just acknowledgment.

4. Share this post. Visibility matters — especially for a field that’s often underfunded and underappreciated.

5. Support DSE. Our Classroom Grants go directly to educators like yours. Link in bio.
