How do you know if an activity is actually instilling confidence, resilience, and joy in your child? It's not the trophy or coach's praise. It's not the band solo or even that they're getting better...

The signals that actually matter:
✅ They talk about it without being asked.
✅ They are willing to try harder things.
✅ They're disappointed when it gets cancelled.
✅ They recover more easily from a bad session.

The Generation Real Activity Finder gives parents a simple, step-by-step framework for finding the right activities for your child, identifying those reactions, and building from them. Co-authored by parenting experts Erica Komisar, LCSW, and Jennifer Breheny Wallace.

We asked child development and parenting experts Erica Komisar, LCSW, and Jennifer Breheny Wallace, as well as our CEO Rob Price, to share the books they feel are most important for how we think about raising kids in today’s world of digital displacement and achievement pressure.

The result: the Generation Real Project Essential Reading List — eight books to help families reclaim real-world childhood, organized by what you might be working through right now, with a personal note from whoever put it on the list.

You don’t have to read them all. Start where you and your family are now. Read a chapter. Have a conversation. Try one small change.

“The best after-school experiences for young kids are the ones where the goal is participation, not performance,” says Rob Price, the CEO of Youth Enrichment Brands. “When these activities are organized around the simple idea of kids having fun and participating with other kids, the transition from a structured school day into a joyful activity just happens.”

Toy Story 5 just crossed a billion dollars at the box office. That's not a coincidence. It's a signal.

The film follows a child drifting away from play, imagination, real friendships, and the messy, joyful, irreplaceable experiences of actually being a kid, because screens filled the space where those things used to live.

It's a conversation an enormous number of families are already having, and it's exactly the conversation we built the Generation Real Project to be part of.
Across i9 Sports, SafeSplash, School of Rock, and US Sports Camps, we see it every day: what kids need isn't more stimulation; it's more real. Real challenges. Real teammates. Real moments that don't disappear when you close an app.

Rob Price, our CEO, wrote about what the film gets right and why it matters beyond the movie theater. Worth a read for any parent, educator, or anyone who works with kids: https://lnkd.in/g9BvbUFc

Earlier this year, i9 Sports | Your Local Youth Sports launched GAINS ARE FOR THE GIRLS

45% of girls quit sports by age 14. Gains are for the Girls is our promise to get more girls playing sports, and love it enough to stick with it!

The goal is to get 500,000 girls playing in our i9 Sports programs annually by 2030.

WHY?
Because when girls play sports they gain confidence and life skills that empower them to succeed in life beyond sports. And that’s our mission at i9 Sports— to help all kids succeed in life through sports.

HOW?
Sports weren’t designed for girls. So we plan to change that by creating an environment where girls feel they belong.

Based on our recent survey, parents say their girls are looking for a supportive environment to have fun, build confidence, and improve their skills. If we can create that environment, then we believe girls will WANT stay in the game longer.

Whether girls play in co-ed leagues, all girls programs, or try out a sport at summer camp, they learn teamwork, respect, and leadership skills that stick with them for life.

Meet Our Project Expert Advisors: Erica Komisar, LCSW & Jennifer Breheny Wallace. Both are among the most respected voices in child development today.

Erica Komisar is a psychoanalyst and author of "Chicken Little: The Sky Isn't Falling". Her clinical work on childhood emotional development and what modern culture is costing our kids is foundational to the resources we're building.

Jennifer B. Wallace is a journalist and author of two New York Times bestselling books, "Mattering" and "Never Enough". Her research on achievement pressure and what it means for children to truly feel like they matter has helped reframe how families think about success.

Together we will build a concrete set of resources for families that provide accessible advice and practices for raising kids through hands-on enrichment activities.

We’ve launched the Generation Real Project: our commitment to rebuilding the real-world experiences that give children confidence, resilience, and joy.

We’re not the first to name the problem. But we intend to be among the first to act on it, along with a coalition of like-minded organizations and two of the most respected child-development experts. Together we will build a concrete set of resources for families that provide accessible advice and practices for raising kids through hands-on enrichment activities and for being less consumed by smartphones, social media, and AI.
