National Eczema Association

National Eczema Association NEA is the driving force for an eczema community fueled by knowledge, strengthened through collective action and propelled by the promise for a better future.

The National Eczema Association (NEA) is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and a prestigious Scientific Advisory Council. Founded in 1988, NEA is widely regarded as the largest, most influential and most representative eczema patient advocacy organization in the United States.

The conversations men with eczema have about their skin, their confidence and their health don't always happen out loud. Not at work. Not with the people closest to them.

This Men's Health Month, NEA Ambassadors and community members are changing that, one honest conversation at a time.

First up: NEA Ambassador Brian Glaze, a husband, father and caregiver, shares what those early days of navigating eczema in his family looked like, including the moment he and his wife discovered their 1-year-old had been scratching his legs bloody from his knees to his ankles, quietly, in his room, without anyone knowing.

This is Unhiding Eczema in Men. 💙

Living with atopic dermatitis (AD) can mean navigating sleep disruptions, mental health challenges and financial burdens as part of daily life.

Yet care conversations with healthcare providers often focus primarily on the visible skin symptoms and appearance.

That's why we're proud to share that two NEA Ambassadors, Charlene Miciano and Julian Rizza, helped co-develop a new article in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD): "In Our Own Words: Patient-Identified Priorities for Eczema Care Conversations."

The article calls on providers to look beyond visible symptoms and engage with the full lived experience of people with eczema and their caregivers, offering a practical roadmap to do just that.

What makes this article truly stand out is who helped write it. We sat down with Charlene and Julian to hear what the process meant to them, what they hope changes and what they want providers to know. Behind every eczema diagnosis is a real story. This Men's Health Month, we're sharing the experiences of men who live with it every day, like Vineet.

Vineet has had eczema his entire life. By the time he reached his pre-medical studies in college, his symptoms had become so severe that doctors told him he met criteria for inpatient hospitalization. He wrote his medical school application essays anyway, studied for the MCAT and got in.

Now a radiologist practicing in Columbus, Ohio, Vineet talks about what those years looked like, what kept him going and what finally helped him manage his eczema.
