Your San Rafael Firefighters are proud to welcome home one of our own after a demanding 16 day deployment on the Dome Fire in Yosemite National Park.
He deployed as a Single Resource Fire Line Paramedic, working side-by-side with multiple USFS Hotshot crews on some of the steepest, most remote terrain in the park. For over a week he was spiked out with those crews, living on the fire’s edge, miles from any road or base camp, not coming out until the job was done.
Helicopters ferried in the basics: food, water, and gear. Everything else they carried in on their backs after hours long hikes into the wilderness. Alongside the usual fireline hazards, the remote spike camps brought extra challenges: bears, mountain lions, snakes, extreme temperature swings, wind, and even snow.
Tough assignment. Beautiful country. Important work.
Your San Rafael Firefighters remain ready locally and beyond, to answer the call when we are needed.

San Rafael Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire on Lincoln Hill that started during contracted vegetation-reduction work on City-owned land. Preliminary information indicates the fire was accidentally sparked by equipment.

Contract crews immediately called 9-1-1 and began suppression efforts before firefighters arrived. SRFD crews quickly contained the fire to less than half an acre within 30 minutes.

Previous fuel-reduction work and existing fire roads helped limit fire spread and provided firefighters with improved access and defensible space.

No structures were threatened, no evacuations were necessary, and no injuries were reported.

As vegetation remains dry, please use caution when operating equipment such as w**d eaters, lawn mowers, and chainsaws that can generate sparks or heat.

25 YEARS LATER. WE REMEMBER.

September 11, 2001 changed our country, our communities, and our fire service forever. Twenty-five years later, we pause to remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, the thousands of lives lost that day, and the countless families, friends, first responders, and communities forever changed by the events of 9/11.

At the San Rafael Fire Department, we believe remembrance is more than looking back. It is about honoring those who came before us by continuing to stand together, serve our community, and live up to the values that define the fire service: courage, compassion, sacrifice, and unity.
We will gather as a department for our own internal remembrance at station 54 beginning at approximately 6:45 AM taking time to reflect with the people we serve alongside every day. The public is encouraged to attend as well.

We will also come together with our community at Lauren’s Place on 4th Street from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM for a community remembrance honoring the lives and legacy of those we lost.

Twenty-five years later, we are still proud to answer the call. Proud to wear the badge. Proud to serve our community.
Proud to be firefighters.

As part of this anniversary, the San Rafael Fire Department has created a 25th Anniversary 9/11 Tribute T-Shirt as a lasting reminder of this important moment in our history. Shirts will be available for $25 at the Public Safety Center (PSC), Fire Department window, with proceeds benefiting our local firefighters. We remember. We honor. We stand united. We serve.

🔥 Training Never Stops

🚒🌊🚁 Fire Boat San Rafael recently trained with U.S. Coast Guard helicopter on rescue basket operations in the bay.

Training alongside partner agencies helps prepare crews for complex water rescue incidents where coordination and communication are critical.

We appreciate the opportunity to train together and continue strengthening our capabilities on the water.
