Earlier this month, WFTC President Dr. Sushma Taylor and Managing Director Phaedon Kaloterakis were accompanied by numerous Therapeutic Communities from around the globe in attending the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna, Austria. The CND serves as an international forum for drug policymaking discussion and debate, specifically concerning the control and demand for illicit substances worldwide. Alongside the CND, WFTC facilitated a hybrid side event–cosponsored by the Portuguese Republic, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA), the Vienna NGO Committee on Drugs (VNGOC), all five current TC continental federations, eight TC organizations, and numerous stakeholder and supporting organizations–highlighting the importance of integrating risk reduction along a continuum of services oriented toward addiction treatment and recovery. WFTC also participated in an informal meeting of the VNGOC, which is a global civil society organization comprised of drug policy professionals from around the world, working to bring perspective from academia, providers, and non-governmental organizations focused on drug control and demand reduction. WFTC is honored to participate in the CND each year and reinforce itself as a valued resource working on an international level to help reduce demand for drugs and alcohol, reestablish purpose, and rebuild community for individuals reintegrating into society.

WFTC is pleased to announce it will hold a side event alongside the 69th Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs next month entitled, "Meeting People Where They Are: Reducing Risk While Promoting Recovery". This hybrid event (online and in person) will highlight the innovate ways Therapeutic Community programs across the globe are integrating risk reduction strategies across service arrays oriented toward addiction recovery.

The event is free to join, and no registration is required. Please kindly share this invitation within your networks. We will hope to count you in attendance!
