Pope Francis, the 266th leader of the Roman Catholic Church, died at the age of 88 after suffering from a respiratory infection that developed into double pneumonia.

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.
