I think everybody in San Pedro knows I officially stop the charity. It was a very, very hard decision to make but there comes a time for everything to come to an end. That being said, I would like to collect Halloween candy again this year for our veterans here at Home. This is my friend Brian, who lost his battle with cancer. He got cancer from the “burn pits“ overseas….google it…it’s horrible. This is his amazing wife, whose love never wavered even through the worst of it. Even after Brian came home, while battling cancer they both continue to help veterans here at home. His AMAZING wife is still tirelessly working to help our homeless veterans. Not only would I like to collect Halloween candy to give to her to pass out to our warriors, who seem to be forgotten about. I would also like to collect new T-shirts, new socks, toiletries and new underwear. I also need cold-weather gear jackets, gloves, and beanies. Those can be used but please make sure they’re clean. If you’d like any information, please contact my shop 310-831-3700. San Pedro automotive. By the way, most of the veterans my friend Rosie is helping are in downtown LA on the VA property. The property was given to the VA under the care of Los Angeles, its ONLY purpose was to house homeless veterans. Google the story. Anybody who loves this country and our military will be appalled. Again contact the shop if you need further information, 310-831-3700.

I can’t begin to thank everyone. I hate to try because I know I would leave someone out. San Pedro Packages for Patriots is closing. It was a tough decision but after 13+ years it’s time. Outside of my family only a few people know. Now everyone does. Thank you again for the thousands of volunteer hours…could not have done it without you.

So Treats for Troops is in full swing. We’ve got several schools on board this year. Holy Trinity, Rancho Vista Elementary, South Shores Elementary, dapple Gray Elementary, White Point Elementary. Pt Fermin Elementary, Taper Ave Elementary, Christ Lutheran, Leland St School, Crestwood Elementary, Dana Middle School and Harry Bridges….I may need some help picking up candy in like a week or so. We got 7000 pounds of candy in 2019. We were unable to do it last year because of Covid. Hit the after Halloween sales. You can drop it off here at the shop. San Pedro Automotive right across from fantastic café. There are also several drop off points here in town. Big Nicks Pizza, Sirens Coffee Shop, Omelette and Waffle House and Sorrento’s. Let’s make this year bigger than 2019

So a good friend of mine used to live here in San Pedro. He was born and raised here. His name is Jon Pepper. He played and coached soccer for the better part of 30 years here I Pedro. He coached this young lady a few years back she’s now with Sailor in the United States Navy. He contacted me and asked if I would send her a care package. Hahaha. We sent her 10. Anyone who knows me knows I can’t do anything half assed. Should take about three weeks to get there. Can’t wait for her to get them. On the first round of care packages we always put who we got the information from that way they can make the connection.

So check this out. 17,900+ care packages and over 116 freaking TONS. And I know what everybody’s going to ask. I’ve been asked so many times the last few months I’ve lost count. “Yes” we still have warriors deployed all over the planet at least for the foreseeable future. I know I’ve told the story before but it’s worth repeating. We started way back in June 2008. This month is our 13 year anniversary. I remember telling my wife wouldn’t it be awesome if we sent 5-10 boxes a month. Well within a little less than a year we were sending that many a week. I honestly thought that we would be so small that we wouldn’t have to file our nonprofit. Well that changed. At first Shirley and I were paying for all the postage out of our pocket. All charities have to pay for postage….no exceptions. I told Shirley that we would have to slow down on the number of care packages because of the cost of postage. My bride looked at me and said “if God wants it to grow it will grow”. Well she was right. We filed our 501 C3 about a year and a half in and we’ve never looked back. All the boxes go through the United States Post Office. Customs is involved and homeland security as well. Once everything is cleared then the military gets it to where ever it needs to go. All charities pay for postage no exceptions. The amazing thing about our little mom and pop charity is we are 100% volunteer. No one and I mean no one has ever gotten a paycheck and no one ever will as long as I’m in charge. How long we will continue to send care packages, well I’m not sure. we will see what the future holds but for the time being we will continue. Again thank you to all of the volunteers and all of the generous people that makes this little charity possible.

So I got a bunch of puzzles donated. I usually put all the pieces in a Ziploc baggie so they stay together. And then I fill the box with candy bars or nuts or whatever I can to take up all the extra space and I throw them in the care packages. Got all done and found some pieces sitting on the floor. Luckily I hadn’t shipped out the box yet. Can you imagine getting the puzzle thinking oh yay and then getting all done and finding missing pieces. By the way boys and girls we’ve been doing the charity 13 years this month.

This month is our 13 year anniversary. Started with this crazy idea to send care packages to our Warriors overseas. I’ve said it before I had no idea the charity was going to get this big or lest this long. We get boxes back every now and then they don’t tell us why because of security reasons. People that have been to the house to help pack always wonder why were you so much freaking tape. This is why. we still have thousands men and women in harms way. I know our commander-in-chief is talking about bringing everyone home....but for now they’re still deployed. For the time being we will still send care packages....if things change in the near future we will reassess and see if we’re still needed.
