The Big Stick Detachment 1496 Outstanding Meeting and Recognition Night

What a fantastic meeting tonight at the Marine Corps League Big Stick Detachment 1496!

We took time to recognize and congratulate all of the members who participated in Fleet Week and contributed to its tremendous success. From operating the Field Mess to staffing the 10x10 booth, selling merchandise, recruiting new members, and representing the Marine Corps League with pride, our members put in countless hours of hard work and dedication. Your efforts did not go unnoticed, and Fleet Week was a success because of you.

A special thank you goes to Chemco for their generous donation of a pair of Angels game tickets, which were awarded to our top Fleet Week performers Your support of veterans and the Marine Corps League is greatly appreciated.

We were also honored to welcome Marcus Flores, who traveled all the way from Oklahoma and is a member of Detachment 857. Marcus served with the original MARDET aboard the USS Iowa (BB-61) from October 1986 to October 1988. In recognition of his service and dedication, we presented him with a commemorative framed tribute and an Iowa Marine Corps hat. It was truly an honor to have him visit, and we hope he enjoyed spending time with our detachment.
We also recognized one of our hardest working members, Charles Malone, for his outstanding commitment during Fleet Week. Charles showed up and contributed all four days of the event, demonstrating the dedication and work ethic that make our organization strong. Outstanding job, Marine!

Another highlight of the evening was welcoming a new member into our ranks. Congratulations to Rene on being voted into the Marine Corps League as an Associate Member of the Big Stick Detachment. We are proud to have you join our growing family and look forward to your involvement and contributions to the detachment. Welcome aboard, Rene!

It was an evening filled with camaraderie, appreciation, and recognition of those who continue to serve veterans, their communities, and the Marine Corps League mission. We look forward to continued growth, stronger membership, and many more successful events ahead.

🔥 FLEET WEEK 2026 MISSION COMPLETE 🔥

Day four… the final day… and we absolutely crushed it. What an incredible way to close out an unforgettable Fleet Week 2026. The Big Stick Detachment was recognized for our efforts during Fleet Week, and that honor belongs to every member who showed up and put in the work. A special thank you to Mike Nguyen from the USS IOWA Veterans Affairs for recognizing and acknowledging our team for an outstanding Fleet Week. That recognition means a lot and reflects the hard work and dedication put in by everyone involved.

Today we wrapped up our raffle and had assistance from the Navy Medical Battalion selecting our winners. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported us throughout the weekend.

From the field mess team keeping everyone fed, to the crew in our 10x10 putting in work selling merchandise, every Big Stick Detachment member executed with professionalism, teamwork, and pride. The mission was accomplished because everyone stepped up and gave it their all.

After a long week of early mornings and long days, it’s finally time to go home, get some well earned rest, and reflect on an outstanding Fleet Week. I couldn’t be more proud of our The Big Stick Detachment and everything we accomplished together.

Mission complete. Until next year. 🇺🇸💪

DAY 3 OF FLEET WEEK IN THE BOOKS 🇺🇸💪

Another successful day in the books, and once again, it all came down to teamwork. The Big Stick Detachment and El Toro showed up and delivered, continuing to put together an outstanding Fleet Week experience.

From the exciting Marine drills and activities to everyone putting in work selling merchandise, the team absolutely crushed it today. Every person played their role, and it showed through a truly cohesive performance from start to finish.

It’s been a long week, but we’re almost at the finish line. One more day to close this thing out strong. Let’s finish the mission.

DAY 2 OF FLEET WEEK 2026: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 🇺🇸💪

We call it a day. Another incredible day alongside the Big Stick Detachment and El Toro Detachment taking care of business and doing what we do best. We were honored to provide free breakfast and lunch to active duty military, first responders, and the crew of the USS Iowa, making sure those who serve are taken care of.

The mission kept rolling all day connecting with people, selling merchandise, and recruiting Marine veterans to join the Marine Corps League and continue the tradition of service and brotherhood.

And let’s unload them! A huge thank you to Randy’s Donuts for keeping everyone fueled with donuts and coffee. Your support and generosity helped keep the team going throughout another long and successful day.

Outstanding effort all around. Time to head home, regroup, get some rest, and recharge because tomorrow we do it all over again and make Sunday another successful day.

🔥 FLEET WEEK DAY 1: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 🔥

What an incredible first day of Fleet Week! We showed up early, handled business, and did what we came to do. We proudly served FREE breakfast and lunch to active duty military, first responders, and the crew aboard the USS Iowa. Another successful day supporting those who serve our country.

The teamwork between The Big Stick Detachment and El Toro Detachment was absolutely tremendous. From feeding hundreds to crushing it in our 10x10 merchandise booth, everyone stepped up and delivered.

The evening wrapped up with an amazing VIP donor appreciation event, and we were honored to have National Executive Director Bob Borka fly in and see firsthand what The Big Stick and El Toro Detachments are accomplishing during Fleet Week. We’re proud to continue putting the Marine Corps League on the map by setting the standard for excellence when it comes to serving and supporting these major events.

This doesn’t happen without the hard work, dedication, and heart of every detachment member. Outstanding job by everyone involved.

Day 1 is in the books… now let’s run it back tomorrow. Day 2 let’s go!

🚨 CALM BEFORE THE STORM 🚨

Fleet Week countdown is on… and now it’s time to get everything dialed in. The prep work starts now sharpening the tools, making sure the blade is ready, equipment checked, mindset locked in, and preparing for the mission ahead.

Fleet Week kicks off this Friday and runs through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday during Memorial Day Weekend. Time to put in the work behind the scenes so we’re ready when the action starts.

Another outstanding meeting today with the Marine Corps League Big Stick Detachment. We had the honor of presenting Certificates of Appreciation, Meritorious awards, and giving back to the community with a donation check to Lomita Little League for welcoming us during their Opening Day ceremonies. It was an incredible event where we had the opportunity to cook hamburgers and hot dogs, connect with the community, and spread the word about what the Marine Corps League is all about.

We’re also wrapping up final preparations for Fleet Week 2026, and we’re fired up for another huge Memorial Day weekend in San Pedro, California. Friday through Monday, we’ll once again be out there supporting the mission and taking care of our Marines, veterans, first responders, USS Iowa personnel, and all those serving our community with FREE breakfast and FREE lunch.

That’s what camaraderie, service, and taking care of our own is all about.

If you’re in the area, come out to LA Fleet Week 2026 and experience an incredible weekend honoring our military and first responders. We’re looking forward to another tremendous year.
