The CA Seaw**d Festival, a FREE event, brings together seaw**d farmers, scientists, artists & entrepreneurs to showcase the best of how we use & enjoy seaw**ds on the coast of CA. WHO WE ARE
Janet Kübler, PhD has been studying the biology of seaw**ds for more than three decades, since she first snorkeled in the kelp forests of the pacific northwest. She is an expert on the effects of changing clim

ate on seaw**ds and is currently working to develop aquaculture of seaw**d species that will be resilient to climate change. She has catalogued the seaw**d biodiversity of Humboldt County, California and domesticated a novel strain of kelp in the North Atlantic. She has her own seaw**d farm in Connecticut and has been chief scientist for several seaw**d producers. Our children call us “Seaw**d Moms” – moms who think knowing more about seaw**ds helps heal and protect the ocean.

Agar W**d is our Seaw**d of the Week! This red alga gets its common name from the agar that can be extracted from its cell walls. For more on the history of agar production, check out Joe Riley’s presentation from last year’s festival.

Seaw**d of the Week is developed in collaboration with Dr. Adi Khen from the Smith Seaw**d Ecology Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography **decology and Dr. Rafael Cuevas Uribe at Cal Poly Humboldt.

(https://www.instagram.com/p/DTCDuhvjsHr/)

Oyster thief is our Seaw**d of the Week! Imagine this seaw**d floating away with an oyster at its base. When growing on a shellfish, oyster thief’s hollow thallus can fill with air and become buoyant.

Seaw**d of the Week is developed in collaboration with Dr. Adi Khen from the Smith Seaw**d Ecology Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography **decology and Dr. Rafael Cuevas Uribe at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Netted wing w**d is our Seaw**d of the Week! If you’ve ever reached for an iridescent seaw**d in the tidepools only for it to turn brown out of the water, you’ve likely encountered this alga, native to Southern California and Mexico.

Seaw**d of the Week is developed in collaboration with Dr. Adi Khen from the Smith Seaw**d Ecology Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography **decology and Dr. Rafael Cuevas Uribe at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Seaw**d of the Week is developed in collaboration with Dr. Adi Khen from the Smith Seaw**d Ecology Lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography **decology and Dr. Rafael Cuevas Uribe at Cal Poly Humboldt.
