Happy Pride Month. 🌈

For many people, Pride is about visibility. For us, it is also about care.

For 10 years, Dem Bois has worked to ensure that trans men of color are not only seen, but supported. Through storytelling, leadership, community building, and direct support, we have continued creating spaces where our voices matter and our lives are valued.

As we celebrate both Pride Month and our 10-year anniversary, we have launched our 10 for 10 campaign.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 by inviting supporters to give $10/month in honor of 10 years of impact.

Visibility = Possibility™. But visibility alone is not enough. Sustainable community care requires all of us.

Join us in helping build the next 10 years.

Thank you to Joël Simeu for joining me in this conversation and for continuing to help shape the care and visibility behind Dem Bois Podcast.

Episode 120 - A Body Made Home: Reflection with Shawn Aaron and Joël Simeu

In this episode of Dem Bois Podcast, I sit down with our Production Assistant, Joël Simeu, to reflect on A Body Made Home: They Black Trans Love by Kai Marshall Green. Together, we unpack the many meanings of home: inside our bodies, our memories, our relationships, and our healing journeys.

This conversation explores identity, mental health, vulnerability, self-care, and the transformative power of storytelling. We also discuss how the structure of the memoir itself encourages readers to slow down and breathe.

There were moments in this conversation that challenged us, grounded us, and reminded us that healing is not linear. As Black trans men, sometimes “home” is something we spend our whole lives building within ourselves.

What does “home” mean to you?

Episode 119 - Breaking Cycles of Trauma through Art and Love with Sunny

Healing is not always loud. Sometimes it looks like choosing to love differently than what you experienced growing up. Sometimes it looks like unpacking trauma, going to therapy, creating art, and giving yourself permission to imagine something beyond survival.

In this episode of Dem Bois Podcast, I sit down with Sunny, a nonbinary trans artist, photographer, and advertising creative, for a conversation about healing, maternal relationships, identity, and breaking generational cycles.

We talk about the impact of upbringing, the importance of therapy, and how Afrofuturism and surrealism show up in their artistic vision and storytelling.

This conversation reminded me that healing is not linear, but it is possible.

Episode 118 - Q***r Representation in Healthcare: A Conversation with Taylor Chiang

What happens when q***r and trans people are visible in healthcare spaces? Possibility expands.

In this episode of Dem Bois Podcast, I sit down with Taylor Chiang, a non-binary general surgery resident at the University of Chicago, to talk about identity, medicine, representation, and what it means to navigate a traditionally conservative field while remaining rooted in authenticity. Taylor shares their journey through medical school, reflects on their experiences with gender identity, and speaks honestly about the challenges and realities of being q***r within healthcare spaces that are not always built with us in mind.

We also talk about family dynamics, the importance of representation in medicine, and why visibility in healthcare matters so deeply for patients searching for providers who truly understand them.

Conversations like this remind us that when q***r and trans people are visible in professional spaces, especially in medicine, it creates possibility for the next generation to imagine themselves there too.

Life is customizable. Society may try to tell us otherwise, but the truth is—you get to choose.

In this episode of Dem Bois Podcast, my guest Wenjamin Nguyen-Gilmore brings that message to life. Wenjamin, a q***r entrepreneur and retired runway model, shares his journey of gender identity and self-definition, along with the realities of navigating the modeling industry.

Together, we explore the challenges of existing in spaces that were not built for us, the power of community, and the role education plays in deepening understanding across identities.

This conversation is rooted in choosing love over ignorance, and building a life that reflects who you truly are.
