As a community service project, OCA San Mateo has teamed up with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Menlo Park to raise funds for a cure for cancer. We will hold a marathon night of Mah Jong at Burgess Park where you can play or learn to play the popular Chinese game endlessly for hours, with snacks, BBQ dinner, music, entertainment, and more! Invite your friends. All participants must register with ACS onsite or online. Make a donation of any amount to participate in all the activities. Link in bio.

Program Director and Public Speaking Coach for OCA San Mateo’s Speak and Lead With Pride Program will attempt to swim across the ENGLISH CHANNEL!

In his own words, Jimmy Hong states, “My son Marcus, daughter Mila, a good friend Pierre, and I are attempting to swim across the English Channel in early July as a relay. We are using this swim to bring attention to, and raise funds for the Speak and Lead program. Speak and Lead teaches public speaking and leadership skills to AAPI high school students. The program has run for over 20 years. A generous benefactor has agreed to match donations up to an additional $5,000.”

Support Jimmy Hong, his son, daughter, and friend in this daring endeavor. Jimmy is passionate about youth development and will risk his life to accomplish this feat! The six week program teaches students about valuable public speaking and leadership skills. This year finalists spoke on the impact of AI on the AAPI community in front of judges Mr. David Mineta, Ms. Phoebe Venkat, and Mr. Rod Hsiao.
