Orchid Conservation Alliance

Orchid Conservation Alliance The Orchid Conservation Alliance works to preserve orchids and orchid habitats . They are adapted to the local climate.

The OCA protects orchid in their native habitats because this approach preserves many species of orchids in the same space, even ones not yet identified, as well as the ecosystems in which they exist. In their natural setting, orchids are subject to the environmental pressures that led to their evolution in the first place, and thus they are most at home there. Their pollinators are there. And in

their native habitat that orchids maintain themselves. On our page we will update our projects, tell you about our "Orchids in the Wild Trips" and post photographs of orchids from our reserves.

Looking for an Orchid Vacation? Travel with the Orchid Conservation Alliance to the Gargano Peninsula (Italy) April 13-20, 2026

As winter starts to release its grip on Europe, April in the Gargano should be pleasantly warm and sunny. Certainly the orchids will know it’s spring – by the time of our visit most of the orchids will already be in flower, from the very early flowering Giant Orchid Himantoglossum robertianum to the diminutive Small-flowered Tongue-orchid Serapias parviflora and, of course, the jewels for which the Gargano is justly renowned, the Ophrys bee orchids.

The Orchid Conservation Alliance offers several Orchids in the Wild Ecotours every year. One of our most popular tours is our "Orchids of the Rio Negro" tour.

This is the only way to view the orchids of the Amazon, on a cruise aboard a riverboat designed for seeing nature. Air conditioned staterooms with en suite bathrooms, wonderful meals, and lots of peace and quiet! Motorized canoes take you through the forest within arm’s reach of many orchids for easy photography. Only occasional walking, and no transferring to new hotels or traveling by bus. Just relaxed cruising. Tour accommodates a maximum of 16 travelers plus the tour leaders, Peter Tobias, OCA representative, and Gilberto Castro, boat captain.

For 2025 we are offering two tours-May 1-12, and a shorter one, May 15-21.
