One of the many SMNA contributions to the South County was to actively work together with elected officials and local agencies to resolve the Perchlorate groundwater contamination issue in our community. One project SMNA is most proud of was the 2010 publication of “San Martin: Now and Then,” the very first book written on the history of San Martin. Together We Make A Difference

The purpose of the San Martin Neighborhood Association (SMNA) Mission: To protect San Martin’s rural atmosphere, support positive controlled growth, promote neighborhood identity and vitality, ensure an influential voice in the local governing body, to provide members with information so they can take an active, informed role in finding viable solutions to our neighborhood concerns. San Martin Neighborhood Association is a way for the community to come together and discuss local issues, keep in touch with our neighbors, support and give back to the community, meet up and have fun. ☺️Agenda Highlight – Item 7

💯 - One of the most significant items on this month's agenda is **Item 7**, which considers whether SMPAC should forward a recommendation to the Planning Commission regarding proposed Countywide amendments implementing **Senate Bill 9 (SB 9)** and State legislation related to **Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).**

Although these are Countywide ordinance changes, they could influence future residential development within the San Martin Planning Area. Residents (You) are encouraged to review the staff report and agenda packet before the meeting and participate in the public comment period.

SMPAC meetings are open to the public...including YOU!@🙂 Residents are encouraged to

The July San Martin Neighborhood Association (SMNA) newsletter is now available. In case you are not signed up to receive it, we're posting here (this one time). It contains a lot of valuable information. If you are not yet subscribed, please email [email protected] to sign up. The Newsletter link is below.

Recently, many residents have expressed concerns about not hearing about important issues early enough. We hear you, it is just not happening in our neighboring cities, Gilroy and Morgan Hill.

SMNA has been asking the County for Early Public Notification of land use, policies, meetings, etc, for years. The County's little blue signs are just not cutting it for the public. And there are other issues- but the County's perpetual excuse for not having public outreach meetings is that they're understaffed. We want to know your comments about this; we're sure several of you share these concerns.

SMNA works hard to stay on top of local issues, however, Community Participation is essential. For example, attendance at the LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission) meeting was low, even though the information presented was a preclude on what could take place. To stay informed and have a voice in decisions, it is important that you attend (even online) and engage early in the process. https://santaclaralafco.org/meetings

We're asking All San Martin Residents to:
• request facts
• ask questions
• attend meetings
• pass information on to others

We may not agree about everything, but let's work together, respectfully. We all need to do our part. It accomplishes nothing to just complain on social media.

The San Martin Neighborhood Association Town Hall Meeting (Thurs, July 16th at 6:30) is an opportunity to learn more about topics affecting our overall community. This Meeting is open to all South County residents. Please RSVP at [email protected]. If possible, offer to help set up chairs. Leave a comment, statement or concern, that can be included as a topic of discussion, or fill out a Comment Card when you arrive. The meetings are friendly and casual; and we hope you'll attend...if not only to meet neighbors or discuss a topic in our Newsletter.

Another successful Trash Bash has been completed—and what a success it was, thanks to you! Your time, energy, and commitment made a real difference in keeping our community clean, safe, and beautiful.

We are especially grateful to all the volunteers who showed up early, worked hard throughout the morning, and helped collect litter across our roads and neighborhoods. Your efforts reflect the true spirit of community pride and service.

We wish to acknowledge our dedicated partner, GreenWaste, for providing dumpsters twice yearly since 2017, along with driver Bobby, and Design Factory Graphics for preparing the flyers. We also thank the San Martin Lions Club for providing their hall to stage our Trash Bash events for the past four (4) years.

We are further appreciative for the gracious contributions:

• Coffee — Starbucks, Vineyard Town Center
• Pastries — Copart San Martin
• Pizza and Popsicles — Jubilee Bridge Church
• Bottled Water — Terri Moriyama, Air For Paws

As one volunteer shared, “It feels good to give back and see immediate results—our community really comes together when it matters.”

As another reminder of what this event represents:
“A vision without action is only a dream, but a vision combined with dedicated people becomes reality.”

Thank you again for the time spent working together for a cleaner community. Your dedication not only helps preserve the rural character and pride of San Martin but shows that “Together We Make A Difference.”
