I attended Barry's Celebration of Life today. Barry's son, Todd, and Todd's wife did a very nice job of posting pictures, running a slide show, displaying Barry's many fine pieces, and providing quite a spread of food and drink. Todd spent a lot of time with Barry the past few years. Fishing kind of kept Barry going his last two years. Barry will be missed. Todd did donate all of Barry's woodworking stuff (lathe, bandsaw, tools, and wood) to our club. He said Ernesto filled up his truck and trailer. TAV and our general membership will enjoy what Barry has shared with us. Barry was generous to all those around him including his many neighbors who came by today and shared stories about Barry and how they enjoyed some of the bowls, etc. that he turned special for them. Medical issues finally got the best of him but he fought til the end. For those who knew him we will miss him.

I am retiring from my responsibilities with "Wood Resources". Chad LaVoi is now the person in charge. He is looking for someone who can operate a chainsaw and maybe even owns a truck! He needs a partner as he takes over "Wood Resources". I will assist until the end of December, 2021. Please let Chad LaVoi or Dan White know if you have an interest in this position.

Thank yous to Tom Hamilton of Lumbercycle and Tree San Diego for helping us out with our TAV program.

Tops & Pens!

come and get them at the SD County Fair, tomorrow is the last day, you get a nice handmade item and support a great cause while you're at it.

Our TAV program helps vets get back on their feet through woodturning, our efforts are seen at Camp Pendleton, Aspire Center and Balboa Hospital.

This is St. John's Oak, it's in the Compiegne forest and is 750 years old.

The monks that used to have this tree around had the habit of cutting off limbs for the winter months, while leaving others so it could keep growing.

This practice leaves the tree vulnerable to insects and sickness, which is why it's got a huge gaping wound to one side, but is surprisingly still alive! There were many beautiful textures and patterns to observe on some burls that were on a fallen branch, and those pictures round off the post.
