Vision: A lifetime network of Hermanas dedicated to empowering themselves and their communities. Goals:
- To unify women through the promotion of the Latino community and the Latino culture;
- To promote community service to the local community;
- To work towards the advancement of all people of color with a special emphasis on the Latina;
- To enlighten our respective communities about Latino cultural, social, and political issues;
- To sponsor cultural events which identify and evaluate the existing and emerging roles of women with an emphasis on the Latina; and
- To promote professional advancement by encouraging academic excellence, mentorship, and networking.

📅 On This Day: September 23, 1868

🇵🇷 We honor El Grito de Lares, the first major revolt for Puerto Rican independence from Spain. Hundreds of revolutionaries gathered at Manuel Rojas’ plantation in Lares, led by visionaries like Dr. Ramón Emeterio Betances, Segundo Ruiz Belvis, and brave freedom fighters.

💪🏽 Among them was Mariana Bracetti (“Brazo de Oro”), who knitted the first Puerto Rican flag, the Flag of Lares, symbolizing the cry for independence.

Puerto Rico’s fight for freedom didn’t stop in 1868. On October 30, 1950, during the Jayuya Uprising, Blanca Canales led another bold movement, raising the Puerto Rican flag and declaring the island’s independence, at a time when displaying the flag was illegal.

As we honor this day, we celebrate the resilience, courage, and leadership, especially of women, who shaped Puerto Rico’s ongoing story of self-determination.
