Today is World Mental Health Day.

Our mission goes far beyond the runway, and today is an important opportunity to share the “why” behind the Texas Capital Air Show.

First responders and military members dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others, often facing unique situations that put them at greater risk for mental health challenges.

Unfortunately, ongoing stigmas surrounding mental health, along with concerns about how seeking help could affect their careers, can prevent many from reaching out when they need it most.

That’s where Wings & Warriors Foundation comes in.

The Foundation understands the challenges and fears that can stand in the way of asking for help. That's why they're committed to always being there to answer the call, providing resources and assistance to those who have spent their lives answering the call for others.

And that's what makes the Texas Capital Air Show about so much more than world-class aviation. All proceeds from the Air Show support Wings & Warriors Foundation and its mission to help first responders and military members in their time of need.

When you join us at San Marcos Airport, you’re not just experiencing an incredible weekend of aviation. You’re becoming part of something bigger. You’re helping us stand behind those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others.

They're always there for us. Together, we can be there for them.

AIR SHOW 101: INTRODUCING THE ANNOUNCER 🎙️

That voice you hear telling a pilot’s story while they tumble across the sky? Meet the Announcer!

The Announcer is the voice of the show. They introduce the performers, explain what’s happening in the sky, and share the stories behind the pilots and aircraft. They’re also a key part of our safety plan: if the crowd needs instructions (weather, a pause/hold, or an emergency), the Announcer is how the message gets to you.

At the 2026 Texas Capital Air Show, your announcer is Brittany Pyjas! She’s one of the few female announcers in the air show industry, known for her energy and her talent for telling the stories of pilots and aircraft.

Be sure to listen to her talk at the Texas Capital Air Show; you may hear her mention a few of our Air Show 101 terms!

AIR SHOW 101: WHAT’S THE BRIEFING?

To put it simply: No brief = no flying

Every morning before gates open, the performers and key show officials gather for the Briefing. The Air Boss walks through the day’s schedule, weather, airspace, radio frequencies, emergency procedures, and safety rules, so everyone is on the same page before anyone takes off.

Attendance is mandatory: a performer who misses the briefing doesn’t fly that day. It isn’t open to the public, but it’s one of the biggest reasons the show runs safely and smoothly.

AIR SHOW 101: WHAT’S THE CEILING?

If you’re walking around an air show, you may hear someone ask, “How’s the ceiling today?” Your first thought will likely be the ceiling of a building. However, in this case, it has nothing to do with that!

The ceiling is the height of the lowest solid layer of clouds above the airfield, and it decides what kind of show you’ll see.

Because cloud heights can vary, performers come prepared with three versions of their routine:
⬆ HIGH show: clear skies, the full vertical routine with big loops and climbs
⬇ LOW show: clouds lower down, so vertical maneuvers are trimmed
↔ FLAT show: low clouds, everything flown mostly horizontally, and still plenty of fun to watch!

Regardless of the type of show that performers fly, it’s always a blast to see the impressive maneuvers they can do in any space!
