.cal.yes is almost complete with our newest project & program to address hunger and food insecurity issues that many students, young individuals and families face every day on
college campuses and in homes here in San Diego County. With our close proximity to in We will be able to help students, individuals and families with weekly access to groceries free of charge at our San Marcos Food Pantry location. We’re striving to address this basic need and help students, individuals and their families focus on what matters most — getting an education and creating a better future. Hunger in San Diego is often invisible. The commitment from us here .cal.yes is to raise awareness of students struggling with hunger. We aim to get more food into the hands of the students, individuals and families who need it most.”
We will be offering access to nutritious groceries five days a week. We will highlight the intersection of food security and education. With many students affording college on their own, they find themselves juggling multiple jobs to meet their basic needs. Our new pantry will help them focus on their studies instead of worrying about where their next meal is coming from.
Despite the immense wealth in San Diego County and partly due to the high cost of living, hunger and malnutrition are pervasive. We will distribute nutritious food and fresh produce equaling over 5,000 meals per week. .cal.yes is pursuing innovative efforts to increase access to food resources as it seeks to feed more hungry people each month. To reach more people, it advocates for anti-hunger policies and will connect those in need to nutrition programs and other resources. We met 19 year old Zachary while doing outreach in San Marcos on Friday. He was sleeping on the sidewalk by 7-11 and after stopping and talking to him he let us know his story. We were able to get him into a hotel for 4 days where he could get cleaned up, some new clothes, eat some food, get some sleep in a clean bed and feel safe. After doing his intake and talking with him we decided to get him back home to Northern CA where he is from. He’s already working with a Navigator up there before he got stranded in San Diego. We got him some clean clothes, New Shoes and a Bus Ticket home. Family/Hometown Reunification is an amazing outcome! (When Safe) Good Luck on your journey Zachary!

In January of 1994 when I was 13 years old I was called into the office of the Chief Executive Officer at Palomar Hospital in Escondido. (I thought I was in trouble). He shook my hand and told me that I had been chosen to receive a National Award for my volunteer service. I had 1,801 hours on that day. 3 months later I received that award at CSUSM in San Marcos. The President’s Youth Service Award signed by Bill Clinton.

26 Years later in December 2020 I was honored to receive The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award with a documented 6,050 hours of volunteer service. Most of my volunteer work was done at Palomar Hospital E.R., Palomar Continuing Care & Rehabilitation, Rady Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities, San Pasqual Volunteer Fire & Escondido Union School District.

And now... I’m fortunate enough to be Executive Director of .cal.yes
This is an organization that I dreamed of and started planning in the summer of 2012. In 2019 we officially became a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization certified with State of CA, Licensed in the City of San Marcos, a member of the San Diego Regional Task Force on The Homeless and approved by the IRS, Dept. of Justice & The Office of the Attorney General of CA. It’s been far from an easy task to reach these goals, but well worth every minute. If you know me you know I love a challenge.
I’m excited for what’s in the works for 2021. Thank You to everyone that has supported .cal.yes along the way.
This is our community, our town, our county. is one of my main goals. I’m ready for the next 20 years.. Let’s Go!
