Updates to the Contestant Application!

1. Music is not due until Mid-August. The focus is on the free-response questions.

2. Anyone who resides in a Small Town can apply for this pageant. Many performers are not from SMTX, but are from the surrounding small towns, and y’all have every right to be a part of this🫶🏼

3. We do not open the floor to people who reside in larger towns due to resources and representation. When a population is in the millions, there are a significant amount of opportunities available compared to our small towns.

4. Any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!

We are currently looking for drag performers of all styles and identities to compete! Drag queens, drag kings, bio queens, alternative drag artists, and all creative drag personas are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority consideration will be given to performers with a strong connection to the San Marcos community.

Note- Applications will be deidentified to prevent bias. Please answer the questions with honesty and intention.

Use of AI is strictly PROHIBITED. Grammar and spelling are not disqualifying factors, but we do need to understand the content of your answers.

For this Pride, we aim to highlight an important person, event, or movement that has impacted the q***r community. Today’s post is about Sylvia Rivera.

Sylvia Rivera is one of the most notable Stonewall veterans and fierce trans activists of the late twentieth century. Sylvia Rivera refused to accept conformity to the status quo, constantly calling out the mainstream “gay rights” movement for being complacent in perpetuating systems that continued to specifically disenfranchise people of color. Even as the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance started gaining force and momentum post-Stonewall, Sylvia Rivera did not back down. The most popular video of Rivera is her fiery speech at the NYC Christopher Street Liberation Day Rally in 1973 where she stressed the criticality of supporting trans people, people of color, and low-income people, particularly those who are in jail or experiencing housing instability. She fought hard against the exclusion of transgender people from the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act in New York and was a co-founder of the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR)—a group committed to providing shelter to trans youth experiencing homelessness in New York City. Sylvia Rivera continued to be an important player in trans activism until she passed away in 2002.

For this Pride, we aim to highlight an important person, event, or movement that has impacted the q***r community. Today’s post is about Marsha P. Johnson.

Marsha “Pay it No Mind” Johnson was a Black trans woman who was a force behind the Stonewall Riots and surrounding activism that sparked a new phase of the LGBTQ+ movement in 1969. Along with Sylvia Rivera, she established the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) in 1970--a group committed to supporting transgender youth experiencing homelessness in New York City. Marsha P. Johnson was tragically murdered on July 6, 1992 at the age of forty-six. Her case was originally closed by the NYPD as an alleged su***de, but transgender activist Mariah Lopez fought for it to be reopened for investigation in 2012. Marsha P. Johnson is now one of the most venerated icons in LGBTQ+ history, and has been celebrated in a series of books, documentaries, and films. Her actions and words continue to inspire trans activism and resistance, and will continue to do so well into the future.

June 1st marks the beginning of Pride Month! We will again be posting about an influential person, event, or movement each day. However, to mark the beginning of Pride, we thought we’d take a moment to answer this question: What IS Pride and why is it celebrated in June?

Pride Month is celebrated each June to honor the Stonewall Uprisings of 1969 (check back for more info on that on June 28th). This marked a significant turning point for the Gay Liberation Movement and has afforded us many of the progressive steps forward that we are now seeing. This initially started as Gay Pride Day on the last Sunday in June, but over the years it has become a month-long celebration. For one solid month we as a community celebrate achievements and activism, mourn and memorialize those lost and who paved our way, and look forward to the work still ahead. Some Pride months have an air of optimism and lightheartedness, while others feel heavier and the grit of determination is felt by the community. No matter what, Q***r folks have ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be here.

This Pride, spend time learning about our community, our history, and why knowing what is going on around you is so tremendously important.
Use your constitutional rights to vote. If you need to update your registration or register for the first time, please reach out! SMTXQC has voter registrars standing by.

🚨SMTX’s First Second Chance Alt Prom is Here🚨

Hey squad, to bring San Marcos the first q***r/alt prom! With much love, has graciously given us the space to celebrate Pride month.

Mark your calendars for June 6th, 2026 as we dance San Marcos into Pride Month. We will have Triple Six Socials resident DJ changing it up for us and spinning some dance tunes all night. Then local band will help us dance away with Chappell Roan and their original dance tunes.

You can buy tickets on EventBrite or at the door. The flyer QR code will take you to the page for tickets, and there is also a link in our bio. If you are a q***r vendor and/or local org please reach out to Triple Six Social to table. All proceeds of tickets and vendor payments will go directly to The San Marcos Q***r Council.

Alt prom starts at 8pm with the first hour dedicated to meeting new people and making friends in your neighborhood. We will have a speed friending event rotating every 5 mins with discussion cards to make it easier for us awkward ones.

At 9pm will get the dance floor started for us to get that vintage prom feeling - while you get to dance with new friends you just made!

Rest of the night will be dedicated to music, memories, and a fun filled safe night.

There will be a voting committee nominating the slayest - so arrive dressed to impress! Theme is Monochromatic Mania - pick your favorite color of the rainbow and its different shades and tones. At 11pm, there will be two winners - one alt/goth and one sinfully flawless. We'll also be taking a group monochromatic picture to resemble a rainbow after the winners are announced.

Hope to see you there and let us know in the comments if you plan to dance the night away with us all!
