Cal Poly's International Student Friendship (ISF) club recently visited the farm to help flip and prepare garden beds, pull weeds, and move wood chips. We are grateful for the awesome groups that come by to volunteer!

Happy National Farmer’s Day! 👩‍🌾 2026 is the International Year of the Woman Farmer, recognizing women’s contributions across agriculture, including work that too often goes unseen. Here at Firstfruits Farm SLO, we have plenty of women worth seeing and celebrating!

To all the women who volunteer: this celebration belongs to you. Farming takes patience, problem-solving, and a willingness to come back when there’s still another row to plant. 💪 Thank you for the time and effort you give, through the satisfying harvests and the stubborn weeds. A special thank you to Kathy K, our Farm Liaison; Kathy C, our Harvest Captain; and Sara, our Comms Director for your years of dedicated service.

We track our production in pounds harvested, then use commercial prices for organically grown produce to estimate the harvest’s value. Every pound is food to help feed someone in our community. 🥕

Think you’ve got an eye for harvest weights? Guess the weight of the produce in each photo!

Fall at the farm 🍂 Pumpkins, crisp leaves, and brown hills all around us.

Volunteers are clearing summer beds and planting cool-weather crops. There’s plenty of work to transition from one season’s harvest to the next, and we’re grateful for the folks getting their hands in the soil.

Someone dressed up for a farm visit. 🤍

This great egret stopped by Firstfruits Farm SLO, exploring curiously between the creek and the leafy greens & orange marigolds. Early fall on the Central Coast comes with some lovely company.

Spot any feathered visitors while you’re at the farm? We’d love to hear who you’ve seen!

Thank you to all our volunteers coming to help out! From morning to evening, everyone is working hard to make sure garden beds are prepped, crops are harvested, and the farm is taken care of as we head into fall.

Crop Spotlight: Cucumbers

Cucumbers are a delicious and hydrating crop, packed with nutrients. We grow them vertically on trellises to save field space, improve air circulation and sunlight for the plant, and to make harvesting a little easier.

A huge thank you to our local AgWest Farm Credit team for showing up for the farm in more ways than one!

AgWest is part of the Farm Credit system, providing financing and crop insurance to farmers and ranchers across the western United States. Each year, their Paso Robles office chooses a local organization for its Team Giving program, pairing a day of hands-on service with a generous donation.

We’d been saving up some bigger projects for a day when we had extra hands, and this crew was ready to jump in. They tackled a little of everything: harvesting, processing, flipping beds, and some seriously heavy-duty weeding. 🧤Impressive work!

We’re deeply grateful they chose Firstfruits Farm SLO this year. Their time, hard work, and financial support will keep making a difference long after their volunteer day.
