There's still time to sign up for the 2017 spring season of youth lacrosse on the Central Coast. Practice is starting soon. There's a jamboree and free clinic next Saturday, March 11th at Bishop's Peak Elementary. No experience necessary and there will be lacrosse sticks available if you don't have one, along with registration for the league available on site.

Registration for the SLO YMCA's spring youth lacrosse league runs for another week. The league is open to boys and girls aged 8-15 from throughout SLO County. Don't forget to register soon.

Cal Poly Mens' Lacrosse hosts the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks tonight at 7 p.m. in their home opener. They also host Cal tomorrow at 1 p.m. in their first WCLL league game of the season. Games are played on the turf fields on campus past the baseball stadium. Admission is free (bring your own chairs or blankets for seating on the hill).

The Mustangs are off to a great season start. They come into their home opening weekend 3-1 and ranked #5 in the latest MCLA National Coaches Poll.

#5 Cal Poly Takes on Stanford on Saturday and Westminster on Monday.

After hosting our first 3 home games in rainy conditions, we are looking forward to near perfect weather for tomorrow and Monday's games.

The Upper Sports Complex is located on Sports Complex Road past Baggett Stadium. Field 1 is located at the far end of the synthetic turf fields, furthest from the baseball stadium. There is a large seating area on the grass hill adjacent to the field, but there are no bleacher seats available.

Cal Poly Rises to #8 in MCLA National Poll - Faces Off Against Two Ranked Opponents at Home this Weekend

After opening up the season 3-0 with convincing wins over UCSB, San Diego, and the #21 ranked San Diego State Aztecs, Cal Poly jumped five slots from their pre-season ranking and check in at #8 in the first Under Armour MCLA Coaches Poll of the season.

The Mustangs defense has been impenetrable during the first three games allowing just over 3.5 goals per game. In order for Cal Poly to remain undefeated, the defense will need to continue to perform well as two of the highest scoring MCLA teams in the nation come into SLO Town for a double-header weekend.

On Saturday at noon, Cal Poly will square off against the #16 Dominican Penguins from San Rafael in the first ever matchup between the two programs. Dominican entered the WCLL this season after dropping their NCAA varsity status. The Penguins moved from NCAA Division 2 into the MCLA during the off-season, and have been turning heads in their brief time in the MCLA. They knocked off perennial WCLL power Sonoma State and nearly upset Simon Fraser in their first two MCLA contests.

The Mustangs will then turn right around and take on the #2 Arizona State Sun Devils on Sunday. It will be the first game between the two squads since ASU handed the Mustangs a close loss in the dome in Minnesota back in 2013. In 2012, it was Cal Poly knocking off the Sun Devils in the MCLA National Championship semi-finals.

Both of the games this weekend will take place at the Upper Sports Complex on the Cal Poly campus.

Registration is open for the SLO YMCA's spring 2015 youth lacrosse league. The league is being coordinated by the SLO YMCA but registration is open to players throughout SLO County and team practices will be geographically based.

Forecast for next Monday and Tuesday is 70 degrees and sunny so we should be in great shape for the Holiday Camp. Registration is still available through Friday, please make sure you're signed up by the end of this week.

Despite all of the recent rain, the clinic is still on for tomorrow morning at Los Ranchos Elementary (9:30 - 11). However, we may be limited to using certain areas of the field and we may have to use the blacktop quite a bit. Bring running shoes and cleats.
