This crest was created for the Post WWII 980th Field Artillery Battalion and rendered redundant when the 144th’ crest returned with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalion’s of the 144th Field Artillery in the 40th Armored Division’s Artillery.

Artifact of the day. This unapproved Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 980th Field Artillery Battalion is in the California Historical Collection.
