Today we are featuring Local’s most recent project, DANA Adobe Windmill restoration. This project has been underway for the past few years and is on track to be the most successful project in the project team’s history! We will be covering the project in two parts: today’s feature includes basic information on the project:
Project Timeframe: Fall 2024-Spring 2026 (exp.)
Location: Nipomo, CA
About the Community: DANA Adobe Cultural Center is a historically protected site dedicated to preserving the history of the indigenous tribes and spanish communities that once called Nipomo home.
Project Need: The community requested EWB assist in the restoration of a windpump which fed the Adobe home in the 19th and 20th centuries. The goal of the project was to restore the project to working condition and to demonstrate to visitors how the wind pump operated for adobe residences 100+ years ago. The project is on track to be restored to historical conditions by the end of this quarter. Once completed, it will use groundwater from below to feed a local community garden for citizens of Nipomo, CA!
Key Engineering Considerations:
- Structural stability of windmill base and foundation
- Mechanical components of windmill head and pump rod
