Hello to all students, parents, and faculty of High Schools in Santa Maria and Nipomo!
We're Seeds in STEM, a Cal Poly University of San Luis Obispo program that provides STEAM education for K-12 students in the Santa Maria community and surrounding communities in an inclusive, sustainable and impactful way!
This month on Saturday, April 30th, we are holding a full-day in-person Seeds in STEM workshop on our college campus! It is an entirely FREE workshop, funded by TRIO/Upward Bound, that will introduce 9th-12th grade students to different facets of STEM that may be overlooked when introducing high school students to STEM fields, primarily in underserved communities and districts. We also aim to connect the concepts that will be learned to the students’ lives through their community and culture to give both a better understanding of the topics while trying to provide a sense of representation that is often absent in popular media.
The workshop is going to be on our campus at Cal Poly SLO, from 10 AM - 4 PM. All materials and lunch will be provided! We’d love it if we could get your help advertising this workshop to your students! Registration for the workshop is OPEN NOW and we do have a maximum of 50 spots so it is first come first serve!
We are currently working with the administration from SMJUHSD to set up free transportation to Cal Poly! So no worries about driving your students all the way to SLO!
Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the workshop and if you can, please let pass this information along to your fellow teachers and students! In addition, attached to this email is a flyer that can be passed along that has more information regarding the workshop and the link to the online sign-up form for the workshop!
