The Friends of Port Chicago National Memorial is a registered non-profit and the official fundraising partner of the National Park Service, created to help support and enhance the Port Chicago National Memorial in 2007. Friends of Port Chicago was successful in advocating for designation of Port Chicago as a national memorial and now it’s mission is to promote the history of Port Chicago, support

the growth of the park and inform the visitor experience through virtual and real-time experiences and education.

Today we honor those who lost their lives in service to this nation. At Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial, we remember the Sailors, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, Merchant Marines, and civilians killed on July 17, 1944 at Port Chicago. In honor of the ultimate sacrifice they made, please join us this Memorial Day in remembering these men, and the many others who have perished in service to our nation.

The Friends of Port Chicago National Memorial, at the 80th Commemoration of the explosion and in partnership with the National Park Service, honored those who perished in the disaster and celebrated the full exoneration of all Sailors charged with refusing to return to work including the Port Chicago 50 who were additionally charged and convicted of mutiny.
