Native Sons Piedmont Parlor #120

Native Sons Piedmont Parlor #120 NSWG Piedmont Parlor #120 is dedicated to the preservation of the history of California and contribu

From its beginnings, the Native Sons has been more progressive in receiving into its membership people who typically were shut out of other organizations. For example, the Native Sons never denied membership to applicants on religious grounds. Likewise, even its earliest membership rolls are dotted with Hispanic surnames. Nevertheless, as was normative for many of its counterpart organizations in

times gone by, for a number of decades, the Native Sons was heavily dominated by a tone of Anglo-Saxon Americanism that included some exclusionary membership policies. As time has progressed, those policies have long since been succeeded by forward-looking, all-embracing ones. So today, the Native Sons membership encompasses people from all ethnic segments that characterize the richly diverse general population of California. And, although we still revere our name of Native Sons, over the years, many women, looking beyond the paradox of nomenclature, have joined our ranks.

Piedmont #120 was represented today at the "Sloat Landing Re-enactment" and also the dedication of the historic church that is now a library by NSGW120 member Steve Hatton and Woz... The event was attended by many Grand Officers (both events) with Grand President Jeff Schmidt speaking on behalf of the NSGW and NDGW. The weather was wonderful and the Monterey History Association, the Monterey City Council, the Native Daughters of the Golden West and the Monterey Community Band did an excellent job of continuing this annual tradition. Thanks to Past Grand Historian Kathy Pearce and her crew for a wonderful reception after the dedication. Thank you to "Kiwi" David Yarborough for the sound system. Monterey was bustling today with motorcycles everywhere as this is the weekend at Laguna Seca for the "Superbike Moto America" event with Cannery Row hosting hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts (before and) after the day's racing. Make your plans now, and mark your calendar(s) to attend the 2023 "Sloat Landing" historic event at the "Custom House" at the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf.

With the current mask-mandate in Alameda County (countywide) and with NSGW120 holding its meetings and events at the Alameda County Veteran's Hall located at 1105 Bancroft Avenue in San Leandro, it is with regret and sorrow that NSGW120 is announcing the cancelation of the scheduled NSGW120 "Prawn Feed" that was scheduled to be held at the Alameda County Veteran's Hall on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Chairman of the event, Past President of NSGW120 Mr. Dan Ryan, President Mr. Paul A. Berlin, Past President and Trustee Mr. Vernon T. Parcell, First Vice President of NSGW120 Mr. Mike Menzel and Woz met today in Castro Valley concerning a separate NSGW120 concern (we were ordering the trophies at the trophy shop for the Statehood Day Classic Car Show that will be held at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park in Castro Valley on September 10th, 2022) and after discussion and the recommendation by event Chairman Dan Ryan, the decision to cancel the July 23rd, 2022 event was made with the possibility of it only being postponed until October 2022 contingent on the Alameda County requirements at that time.

If you were planning on attending our "Prawn Feed" we want to thank you very much for your support of NSGW120 and we will keep you up-to-date on further plans.

Our "Signature Event" the NSGW120 "Statehood Day BBQ-Classic Car Show Event" is still scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2022.

Worthy President Berlin,

I just spoke with Immediate Past President of NSGW120 Mr. Dan Ryan who reported that he has contacted the print shop that will print sequentially numbered tickets for the NSGW Piedmont Parlor #120 "Prawn Feed" that will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the San Leandro Veteran's Hall located at 1105 Bancroft Avenue in San Leandro.

Chairman of the event Mr. Dan Ryan has explained that there will be no tickets sold at the door and reservations and purchase of the ticket(s) will be handled by both him (Dan Ryan) and you (President Paul A. Berlin) as your contact information is on the flyer. Tickets will be available very soon and you can contact Dan Ryan for tickets at [email protected]

I have attached a copy of the flyer for the NSGW120 Prawn Feed (previously accepted after discussion by both you and Dan Ryan) which indicates the price, the location, the time(s) of the event and that the Piedmont Parlor #120 of the Native Sons of the Golden West is proud to once-again be able to host and sponsor an event. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there were few or no opportunities to share the good-will of the Piedmont Parlor #120 or the Native Sons of the Golden West.

I have also attached for your convenience the flyer for the Piedmont Parlor #120's "Signature Event" which is the California Statehood Day Celebration and BBQ that will occur at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park in Castro Valley on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 11AM until 4PM. Once-again, this will be the first time in two years that the Piedmont Parlor #120 has been permitted to host and sponsor our signature event.

I will be at the General Membership Meeting of NSGW120 tomorrow evening as our meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the San Leandro Veterans Hall located at 1105 Bancroft Avenue in San Leandro at 6PM.

Woz...
