Last week, CAPS was honored to be invited to attend the Biden-Harris Administration’s White House Initiative on AANHPI’s first Mental Health Summit at the Department of Health and Human Services and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Washington DC, representing CAPS- Chinese American Physicians Society, and FCMS (Federation of Chinese American & Chinese Canadian Medical Socities) with fellow FCMS physicians Kenneth Fung and Vanessa Chan. We also connected with Oakland’s Asian Health Services CEO Julia Liou, as well as other AANHPI physician leaders.
Thank you to the WHIAANHPI organizers for this incredible step forward to address the nation’s mental health crisis.

CAPS had the honor of attending the President's celebration of the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act at the White House on March 23, 2023. We were able to meet other AANHPI physicians from across the nation as well as representatives of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI).

Yesterday, the Chinese Community Task Force on COVID-19 of San Francisco hosted a press conference for Medical Professionals to speak out against Hate Speech, particularly terms that have been used to reference COVID-19, such as "Kung Flu." CAPS and FCMS (The Federation of Chinese American and Chinese Canadian Medical Societies) were represented by Dr. Vanessa Chan. FCMS was also represented by Dr. Randall Low.

CAPS was able to donate over 350 cloth masks to another nonprofit in Oakland Chinatown, Family Bridges, which serves approximately 10,000 clients– principally monolingual and LEP Asian-language speaking, moderate-to-low income, East Bay residents.
Thanks to many resident sewing volunteers in Orinda, and to Mask the Bay for the masks!

04/24/2020

Thanks to more generous donations, we are still able to donate more masks to physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and first responders here in the East Bay. We just placed another order for another 8000 masks! If you are able to give any amount, we will be organizing donations of cloth masks to local senior centers soon.

With all of the changes happening due to COVID-19, CAPS has been able to find a reliable source of procedural and KN95 masks from China. We have provided these to many local physician and pharmacist members who have been unable to find masks while they continue to see patients in their offices. So far, we have purchased over 15,000 procedural masks, and 5000 KN95 masks, which are being distributed locally to health care providers. Most local hospitals now have sufficient supplies of masks at this time.

Today, we also donated 300 procedural masks to the firefighters, police, and essential workers of the City of Orinda, CA, where a local senior care facility has had over 45 positive cases of patients and staff. Here, our local first responders have not been able to obtain masks either.

If you are able to help CAPS continue to support our local frontline physicians, pharmacists, firefighters, police, essential workers and other vulnerable populations, we would be grateful for any contributions which would go 100% directly to purchasing more needed masks/PPE.

CAPS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
