Abiding Love For Africa

Abiding Love For Africa Abiding Love For Africa (ALFA) through donations is making a difference in the lives of special needs kids in Kagadi, Uganda. ALFA has other projects too!

A First visit to Bishop Rwakaikara’s Special Needs Unit (SNU) in Kagadi, Uganda was made in November of 2009 where there were 24 children living in extremely sparse circumstances. More than 60% of these children are deaf. The Ugandan word for deaf is ‘Kasiru’ in their language, meaning ‘Stupid’ or ‘Foolish’ and most often these children were hidden away and even tied while a guardian went to work,

perhaps on a farm. The SNU has chilren with sight problems, with physical or mental disabilities, but we like to say that they are "Differently-Abled" and they need to be shown ways they are abled. As we became aware of the great need for wheelchairs in that area of Uganda we also partnered with the Free Wheelchair Mission and 100 wheelchairs were placed in the possession of those with the greatest need. We also became aware of dire need at the Kagadi Hospital and some funding has been directed there to replace some mattresses and repair their Rainwater Collection Tanks, but more help is desperately needed. The SNU population has grown so much and with 120 children there the need has also grown!
