Baxter wanted to make sure everyone is up to speed on what's happening around The Shea Center! 🐴🚧

While our therapy horses continue changing lives every day, we're also making exciting improvements around the facility:

🔨 Replacing the Kevin Walker Way (driveway) hillside fence and removing eucalyptus trees to help reduce fire risk

🐴 Rebuilding the Klein Arena and installing new base and footing

☀️ Installing solar panels on the Cvengros Arena to support a more sustainable future

🧡 Improving horse safety and shade comfort at multiple turnouts

These projects are important investments in the safety, sustainability, and future of The Shea Center—and if you see activity onsite, now you're in the know! 👷🐴

With June here and summer right around the corner, that means one thing at The Shea Center... hose season! ☀️🐴💦

Danny and his OT, Missy, put occupational therapy skills to work as Danny practiced operating the hose while helping Braveheart cool off and even “clean his teeth.” 😄

Activities like this help build coordination, confidence, and functional skills- all while having fun with our therapy horses. And if you ask Braveheart, getting sprayed with the hose might be his favorite part of summer!

Meet Board Member Ashley Fisher 💙

Ashley first came to The Shea Center in 2016 with her son, Rocket, as he recovered from cancer treatment. What began as a client experience quickly became a family passion rooted in horses, healing, and connection.

Today, Ashley serves on our Board of Directors and is a dedicated advocate for The Shea Center and our mission. A lifelong equestrian and talented ranch manager, Ashley has grown up around horses and brings both deep knowledge and heart to all she does. From competing in jumping to becoming a skilled dressage rider, horses have always been a constant in her life, and she generously shares that passion by helping exercise Shea horses and support our equine programs.

Her family’s involvement with Shea has also been incredibly meaningful. Rocket continues to volunteer with our military programs, her daughter Skylar volunteered as a leader during her high school years, and the Fisher family has welcomed retired Shea horses to their ranch.

Ashley says one of her favorite things about The Shea Center is witnessing the bond between clients and horses. “It still brings tears to my eyes to see the clients connect with the horses,” she shares. “The care by the therapists is so evident and the experience is magical.”

We are so grateful for Ashley and her family’s continued dedication and support. 🐴

We were honored to welcome executives from EKN Development, including Ebbie, Founder & CEO, along with Heather Knapp and Katie Groat, as well as T.J. Coveyou of Newport Private Group and his project, Capistrano Ranch, to The Shea Center for a tour and ride-along experience!

As an accomplished horseman himself, Ebbie especially enjoyed learning how we utilize posture and positioning on the horse through our equine assisted services to help improve the lives of our clients. 🐴💙

Thank you all for taking the time to visit, learn, and experience the impact happening every day at The Shea Center.
