Protect San Benito

Protect San Benito A grassroots group that works to protect our environment and the quality of life of local residents. We've banned fracking and slowed sprawl development.

We're a passionate group of volunteers (mostly retirees & some youth) who care deeply about our community. "Campaign to Protect San Benito County" is our FPPC committee ( #1445331) and also our 501(c)4 nonprofit that engages in local campaigns. Since 2013, we've worked to protect San Benito County's precious air, water & land. Our past successful campaigns can be seen in historical posts if you scr

oll backwards in time. Our 501(c)3 is called "Protect San Benito County". This page was established in 2014 when we launched our successful campaign to ban fracking (Measure J). We also used this page to educate the public about Monterey Community Power in 2017, about NO on Measure K in March 2020, and about NO on Measure N in November 2020. Today, we are using this page to eduate the public about our citizens' initiative "Let Voters Decide How San Benito County Grows" which we're working to put on the ballot in Nov. 2022.

SIGN THE PETITION to stop former Mayor Mia Casey's plan to allow thousands of houses to be built on 3,000 acres of farmland surrounding Hollister. The plan (approved on Casey's final day in office) will be a disaster because our infrastructure (roads, schools, etc.) and services are insufficient to support this level of growth. Volunteers are collecting petition signatures throughout the city. Contact [email protected] to connect with a volunteer.

Hollister residents are working to overturn former Mayor Casey's terrible General Plan which could allow thousands of houses to be built on 3,000 acres along these roads: Fairview, Buena Vista, Union, and San Juan Hollister. SIGN THE PETITION for the Referendum to STOP this disastrous General Plan. Volunteer petition collectors are outside many major stores in Hollister. (This terrible General Plan gives Developers a way to evade Measure A in the future.)
