A win for our communities and a step forward in the fight for immigrant justice.

Yesterday’s decision to halt the construction of a private detention facility is a powerful reminder of what happens when communities organize, speak up and stand together.

We celebrate this moment while recognizing there is more work ahead. We stand in solidarity with our immigrant communities and the advocates fighting on the front lines to protect our most vulnerable neighbors and keep families together.

San Mateo County also extended its own ban on new detention facilities for nearly a year.

What does it cost to live in the Silicon Valley?

For too many families, the answer is their health.

In a recent op-ed, Dr. Tony Iton, CEO of The Health Trust, highlights a troubling connection. Sixty-three percent of low-income residents in Santa Clara and Northen San Benito Counties reported experiencing chronic stress. At the same time, cancer rates among people under 50 are rising in the Bay Area, and many researchers are examining chronic stress as a potential contributing factor.

We need policies that address the conditions driving chronic stress and invest in what every community needs to thrive: affordable housing, nutritious food, health and childcare.

We can do better!

Black mothers and babies deserve better!

The Black infant mortality crisis is harming families and shaping generations. The disparities we see in birth outcomes reflect deeper inequities in health, housing, economic opportunity and access to care.

Wisconsin has one of the highest rates of Black babies dying before their first birthday. Neither family income nor education explains the disparity.

Today, we honor Gloria Steinem and her lifelong commitment to justice and equality.

Her work challenged systems that excluded women and people of color, creating lasting change and opening doors for generations to come.

The fight for equality is not over. We will keep pushing for a future where every person has the opportunity live with dignity, health, freedom and belonging.

The work continues, and so do we!

No one should worry about where their next meal will come from. In a new opinion poll, sponsored by The Health Trust, 74% of residents in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties worry about running out of food before they have money to buy more. Every person deserves dignity, stability and enough food to feed their families. Residents are telling us they are struggling. It’s time to listen.

Access to healthy foods is a public health issue!

The Health Trust was honored to be on hand for Valley Verde's 15th anniversary celebration, which also marked the ribbon cutting of its "Bees and Trees" fruit orchard parcel in Morgan Hill. This celebration and new site will soon be home to dozens of varieties of fruit trees, and a future anchor for community-building to advance equitable food access in our region. The site expansion was made possible through the generous support of a local family who provided land for Valley Verde’s use.

Congratulations to the many partners who are making this project a reality. The Health Trust is grateful for the opportunity to have sponsored this momentous gathering occasion.
