When someone you love is caring for a chronically ill dog, it's hard to know what to say. These are a few things that help.

Ask about today. Offer something specific. Tell them they're doing a good job. Let them talk about their dog, not just the diagnosis.

And if they don't know about us yet, tell them. The Diesel's Footprint support group is a place for families caring for a chronically ill pet to connect with others who understand. Link in bio.

Send this to someone who needs it. 🐾

For so many families, a veterinary diagnosis comes with a second fear: How are we going to afford this?

No one should have to lose a beloved pet because the cost of chronic medical care is out of reach.

Diesel’s FootPrint helps families facing that reality by providing financial assistance for ongoing veterinary care, helping pets get the treatment they need while staying with the people they love.

Because sometimes keeping a family together starts with helping them through the bill.

Pet insurance and financial assistance organizations often get lumped together. They're not the same thing.

🐾 Insurance: helps with costs going forward — but only if your pet was enrolled before the diagnosis.
🐾 Financial assistance (like Diesel's FootPrint): helps families already facing a diagnosis, when insurance isn't an option or doesn't cover enough.

Most families dealing with a chronic diagnosis need both — or need us because insurance wasn't in the picture yet.

Want to help make that support possible? Check out our website to learn more!

A chronic illness diagnosis isn't a single vet bill. It's months or years of medications, bloodwork, and rechecks.

For a lot of families, that cost is what forces the hardest decision.

Diesel's FootPrint helps pet families get ongoing care for dogs and cats with chronic illness, so they can keep the pet they love.

Join us at Wags & Wishes on November 14 at The Woman's Club of Palo Alto. Every ticket and sponsorship supports that care.

Asking for a second opinion is worth considering when the diagnosis is serious or unclear, when the treatment plan isn't working, or when you simply want more information before you decide something big.

The ask is straightforward: "I'd like copies of my pet's records - can you send those over?" Most vets expect this. Records belong to you.

Then bring the full picture to the new appointment: records, current medications, and one specific question you want answered. Not "what do you think," but the thing you actually need to know.

You're allowed to want more information. That's not distrust, it's extra care.

You don't stop loving a pet when the diagnosis gets complicated. ✨

Wags & Wishes is an elegant benefit evening for pets living with chronic illness and the families who love them - a seated dinner with local wines, leading veterinary specialists, a curated silent auction, and a room full of people who understand.

Come if you love a pet like family. Come if you work in veterinary medicine. Come if you run a business that wants to stand behind something local and real. And come if you've ever sat in a waiting room doing the math.

A chronic diagnosis can cost a family $2,500–$7,000 a year. Every ticket and sponsorship funds Diesel's FootPrint programs: financial assistance for chronic veterinary care, cooperative care training, and caregiver support.

📍 Saturday, November 14, 2026 · 5:30–9:00 PM The Woman's Club of Palo Alto · 475 Homer Ave
